MONROVIA – The Liberian People’s Party has with immediate effect suspended 7 of its officials, and members from 3 to 5 months. this is in alleged violation of the party’s constitution and norms without specific to any chapter, article and section of their constitution.
Those suspended include Major tamba Samukai, National Vice Chairman Recruitment and Mobilization; Richie Grear, Montserrado County’s National Campaign Coordinator; Abraham Konneh, and Alphonso Tweh, National Youth Chairman, and Vice Chairman respectively.
Others are Saye Boayue, Montserrado County’s defeated Senatorial candidate; and Angeline Togba, and Prince Kojo Davies, Montserrado county’s defeated representative candidates for electoral districts 13 and 17 respectively.
According to statement dated Tuesday, 9 January, and signed by Yanqui Zaza, National Chairman of the party, is advising the public to no to do business with the above mentioned individuals in the name of the party
But in a counter reaction, the National Executive Committee clarified that at no time did the body suspend or participate in a meeting resulting in the suspension of any official of the National Executive Committee, specifically, the National Vice Chair for Recruitment and Mobilization, Major T. Samukai, Jr., the National Women Wing Chair, Angeline K. Togba, and the National Youth Wing Chair, Abraham Konneh.
Responding, Leon M. Talery, National General Secretary In a few of the Party’s Whatsapp Group chats, Partisan James McGill Kartee (Former National Campaign Treasurer) presumably acted under the authority of the National Chairman, J. Yanqui Zaza published a message under the caption “minutes from the meeting of the National Executive Committee, Party Elders, & Leaders’”, in which he claimed that the National Vice Chair for Recruitment and Mobilization and other officials and members of the Party were suspended.
He also indicated in his WhatsApp message that “by approval of the National Executive Committee & Party Elders, the following Party’s stalwarts have been appointed to serve on the CPC 2024 Committee 1. Dr. Johnson J. Geply 2. Mr. Weah Karpeh 3. Mr. Bush Yartee, 4. Mr. Pajibo, 5. Mr. Amos Bardy 6. Mrs. Laura, T. Korvah, 7. Mr. Abdulai D. Sonie 8. Mr. Newah Benzukeh 9. Mr. Joshua Dolelakeh 10. Rev. Daniel Kieh 11. Mr. Dad Sonkarlay 12. Mr. Benjamin Mulbah 13. Mr. Booker W. Bowhile 14. Mr. Ezekiel Saye 15. Mr. Kaba Ousman”.
The National Executive Committee strongly refutes this claim by Partisan Kartee, as the body has not approved the appointment of any Partisan to serve as a “CPC” official. The Party’s constitution expressly placed the authority to establish procedures for the conduct of Congress in the body itself, which includes Officials of the National Executive Committee and County Congresses.
Lastly, the National Executive Committee denies the claim of Partisan Kartee that “Party Executives including members of the National Executive Committee and Party elders will pay a monthly due of USD 20.00, County Executives USD 5.00, District Leaders $300.00 LD, and Party members $200.00 LD. Failure on the part of any official or member to pay his/her monthly because he/she will not be recognized as a member, not allowed to participate in meetings, not allowed to serve as committee chairman or members, and not allowed to form part as Party delegate”.
The National Executive Committee likes to inform all partisans that the power of levying dues and other mandatory financial payments to the Party’s Treasury rests with the National Committee and National Congress in compliance with ARTICLE XII, Section I and Article VII, Sections I and II of the Party’s I984 Constitution.
We would like to inform all Partisans that official decisions of the National Executive Committee are issued through the Party’s National Secretariat. Therefore, any information conveyed otherwise should not be considered official.
We warned partisans in the habit of publishing information in the name of the National Executive Committee to desist, as this could lead to expulsion and subsequent criminal charges.
