Monrovia – The administration of the University of Liberia is upbeat about its 2019 entrance and placement exams results, describing it as an ‘improvement.’
The Executive Director of the Center for Testing and Evaluation, Professor Moses S. E. Hinneh Jr., in a press conference on Tuesday, August 21, said the results show more number of passes than other examinations administered recently.
Out of the total 4,541 candidates result analyzed, 1,521 candidates made a regular pass, 461 made a provisional pass and 2,559 candidates were unsuccessful, Hinneh said.
This means, that 1,982 of the candidates that sat the test either made a regular or provisional pass.
Other examination results of state-run university have shown mass failure with few candidates making a pass.
Professor Hinneh noted that 84 or (1.82%) of the 4,541 candidates were absent from the examination, while three candidates were disqualified for “examination malpractices”.
The 4,541 candidate’s results according to him, were analyzed from the undergraduate colleges, Straz Sinje and the College of General Studies.
“Of the total 4,541 candidates’ results analyzed from the undergraduate colleges, Straz Sinje and the College of General Studies, 2,792 or (61.48 %) of them are males while 1,749 or (38.52%) are females,” Professor Hinneh explained.
This also means that, out of the 1,982 candidates who passed the test, 1,218 are males while 764 are females.
he explained that 349 of the successful candidates from the under graduate, Sinje Vocational College and the College of General Studies are from Public Schools, 710 are from the private schools, 867 are from faith-based schools, 46 from the company schools while 10 are from community schools.
“Out of those that passed from the undergraduate colleges, Straz Sinje and the College of General Studies, 78.81% of the candidates are from schools located in Montserrado County; followed by Margibi, 6.51%, Nimba 4.19%, Lofa 2.17% and Bong County with 1.46%, while Grand Gedeh had 1.46% and Grand Bassa 1.31%,” he said.
“The rest of the counties account for less than 1% of the candidates that passed the Exams.”
At the same time, he said 99.65% of the candidates that passed the Entrance Exams are Liberians while the rest are Ghanaians, Nigerians, or Sierra Leoneans.
The result also shows that 76.79% of the candidates that passed the entrance exams are high school graduates, 21.59 are either Current 12th Graders while 1.61% are students from other universities.
Also, 21 of the successful candidates are from the College of General Studies; 50 are from the Sinje Technical and Vocational College.
“From the above analysis, it is obvious that the faith-based schools performed better, with 45.90% of their candidates who wrote the Entrance Exams making a pass,” Hinneh said.
“The performance of the Faith-Based Schools is closely followed by the Company Schools with 45.54% pass rate.”
