MONROVIA – The Managing Director of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), Amos Tweh, has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat on the Executive Committee (EC) of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), injecting fresh high-profile interest into the race for the country’s football governing body.

Tweh’s declaration comes amid intensifying discussions regarding leadership and reform at the football house.
The LPRC boss, known for his visibility in youth and community sports, is seeking to transition his corporate administrative expertise into the direct governance of Liberian football.
“I have always believed that football remains one of the strongest unifying forces in our country,” Tweh told stakeholders. “With the right governance structures and a commitment to transparency, we can reposition Liberian football to compete effectively both locally and internationally.”
The Raji Endorsement
In a move that clarifies the burgeoning political alliances ahead of the LFA elective congress, Tweh openly endorsed the incumbent LFA President, Mustapha Raji, for a third term.
Describing Raji as a “progressive and pragmatic” leader, Tweh signaled that his candidacy is built on a platform of partnership with the current leadership.
“The president is a person-centered, very innovative, and very smart young man. The fact that he is progressive and pragmatic makes it important for us to partner with such a like-minded individual,” Tweh said.
“I am hoping that he can be re-elected let me be very clear. We support him one hundred percent.”
Tweh emphasized that his desire to join the EC is rooted in a wish to work alongside Raji and other stakeholders to “shape the paradigm” of the local game.
Eligibility and Experience
Addressing potential scrutiny regarding his qualifications, Tweh maintained that his track record in sports administration meets the LFA’s criteria for executive leadership.
“I have been involved in football for over two to three years. Beyond that, I have served as Chief Patron of Sports of the Oilers Sports Association. That in itself ensures I meet the qualifying criteria,” he stated.
When questioned on what specific value he brings to the table, Tweh pointed to his recent impact on the sports scene as a litmus test for his future performance on the Committee.
“My participation in sports over the last two years has made a huge difference,” Tweh argued. “Being a member of the Executive Committee will make an incredible difference especially working with like-minded people. I am confident that together we can transform the landscape.”
Political Undercurrents
While Tweh has yet to launch a full-scale campaign, insiders within the football community suggest that high-level consultations are already underway.
His entry into the race is expected to generate mixed reactions among club administrators and delegates.
The LFA Executive Committee holds significant power over league management, grassroots development, and the financial governance of national teams.
As such, these seats are traditionally among the most fiercely contested in Liberian civil society.
Observers noted that Tweh’s position as the head of a major state-owned enterprise (SOE) could be a double-edged sword.
While his corporate influence and resource mobilization skills are undeniable, critics often remain wary of the increasing intersection between high-level public office and football politics.
