“We are mandating Senator Nathaniel McGill to rally all CDC lawmakers to boycott the upcoming State of the Nation Address, said acting CDC chairman They can’t sit under an illegal Speaker,” Jangar Kowo, the party’s acting Chairman said during a press conference Wednesday.

He added: “When the CDC surrendered power in 2024, we didn’t do that at our weakness, that was done with the unflinching commitment of President Weah’s tenant of democracy.”

“We want to remind President Boakai that you don’t have the capacity to contain the Liberian People.”

CDC Threatens to Resist Arrest of its Lawmakers

Acting Chairman Kowo also threatened that the party will resist any attempt by the government to arrest CDC lawmakers to the burning of the Capitol building who have been linked to the Capitol Building fire incident.

On Tuesday, news broke that the Liberia National Police (LNP) issued an arrest for embattled House Speaker Cllr. J Fonati Koffa and three other lawmakers from the CDC for their alleged role in the Capitol Building fire incident.

However, authorities of the Liberia National Police and insiders at the Monrovia City Court denied the rumors as false and misleading.

Cecelia Clarke, Police spokesperson, stated that there is no substantiated information to support these claims.

Kowo, however, challenged the government’s attempt of an arrest on its lawmakers, saying the government should be prepared to arrest everyone in the CDC.

“Do not dare arrest any CDC lawmaker on grounds that they are suspects to the Capitol Building fire incident. Any attempt to arrest them, be prepared to arrest the entire CDC,” CDC Acting Chairman said.

He added: “The strength and legitimacy lies in the rule of law. Attempting from the Unity Party government to sway from the Liberian Constitution, it will be a dangerous trend that will be resisted and resisted strongly.”

Kowo accused the Unity Party of reportedly trying to embark on the act of arbitrary actions by brutalizing the Constitution and disregarding all of the tenets of democracy.

“It is backed by article one of the Constitution that gives rights to the citizens. Illegal dismissals, illegal removal of citizens from payrolls, the illegal removal of Speaker Fonati Koffa and now their aims to target members of the CDC will be resisted,” he explained.

“The peace and security of the country is in President Boakai’s hands. He can decide for the country to progress or retrogress.”

“Those security personnel who were on duty at the grounds of the Capitol Building the day the fire incident took place should be interrogated and not the other way around by torturing individuals without legal representation.

“Who was providing security for the Capitol Building on December 18, 2025 when the building gutted fire?” CDC Acting Chairman asked.
