According to our reporter, who also went to ascertain for himself what this newspaper had been told, observed that staffers in the Office of Vice President Jewel C. Howard-Taylor were seen engaging in petite trading during normal working hours.
He said he saw them selling sold cool-aid, and recharge cards.
When contacted, Mr. Solomon Ware, Director of Communications in the Office of the Vice President, told our reporter that he had no knowledge about such activity ongoing in the Office of the Vice President.
“It is not to my knowledge. Until you can identify the individuals you purchased such items from or the name them, I cannot speak to that, Sir,” Ware told our reporter.
Our reporter said a 0.5 liter bottle of cool-aid was being sold for L$50 while a recharge card was sold for L$170. He observed that those staffers mainly involved in the petite trading, abandon their jobs to serve their customers, who come in to purchase from them.
This is the first of its kind for it to be observed that such a degrading act is being carried out in the Office of the second most powerful person in the country.
This newspaper couldn’t establish whether or not Vice President Taylor is in the know of what is currently taking place within her office.
According to our reporter, he tried to engage some of those involved but they refused to speak with him.
