Monrovia – The Administration of the United Methodist University has launched a new web-based system known as School Link which is intended to help the university manage its registration functions from pre-admission through graduation.
The website was launched by MWETANA Consulting and Technology Group.
During the program, the UMU Vice President for Administration Dr. Albert Coleman narrated that when he took over the university administration, his main focus was to stop corruption from continuing.
Says Dr. Coleman: “I think I fell happy today because when I joined UMU about a year and a half ago my main attention was how to improve academic excellence here at the school, and one of the main things that I was concern about is how to improve the registration process and to put a better system together so that people will come after us will have something to work on and not just doing things the same old way.”
Dr Coleman acknowledged that in order to get rid of corruption at the UMU, he reviewed a number of proposals that could help improve their registration process and during that review, they got in contact with Smart School and School Link and after a complete investigation, they selected the Smart School but now they are in contact with MWETANA Schooling program.
“So I reviewed a number of proposals for improving our registration process and I saw Smart school and School Link and we selected Smart school and they have been doing good but now we are in total contact with MWETANA Schooling program and we have agreed to try it in our graduate school and I think now the way it is looking the systems might be able to merge.”
Dr. Coleman emphasized that corruption is ongoing in most of the universities in Liberia and is not only unique to UMU where there is no system in place when it comes to the registration process.
“As I earlier stated our main objective is to stop corruption. I think we all know what is presently going on in most of our universities is not only unique to UMU where there is no system in terms of how they plan their courses they jump from 101 and take 400 level course which is very wrong because you have to do 200 level courses before you do 400 courses.”
MWETANA Chief Executive Officer and President portrayed the steps taken by the UMU administration as a major boost for the learning process at the university.
Vivien C. Jones mentioned that changes does not come easily but as an institution with vision you just have to take the lead in order to bring a change that would bring progress to your institution for the benefit of its people.
“We are here today to launch this system in order to help the school administrators to be able to manage the school process from preadmission all the way until a student graduates, and in doing so the system allows them to use their time wisely to do what they’re supposed to do in that period of study.” Mr. Jones mentioned.
He furthered that they started developing the software program about six years ago at the different colleges, universities and high schools and it would first be introduce at the UMU with the hope of helping to move that learning institution forward in her learning process.
“Approximately six years ago after doing some research at the different colleges, universities and high schools, we started developing this software program and today we are here to introduce it at the UMU with the hope of moving the university forward especially in her registration process.” CEO Jones said.
Mr. Jones also emphasized that the new registration process would help to kick out corruption from the school registration process and help to reduce the over crowdedness of students on the university campus during registration period.
“This new MWETANA School program that your administration has introduced here at this university is to help make easier your registration and learning process and we all hope to soon get used to the system.”
