Monrovia – The president of the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA), Abraham Samukai, is calling on officials of teams playing in the LBA 2024 leagues to follow their respective game schedules.

Mr. Abraham Samukai, speaking to FrontPage Africa, said his statement is to inform that the national league will not go on a break because of the national county sports meet currently taking place. He disclosed that basketball is not part of the ongoing 2024 National County Sports Meets, so the league will go on as planned, and there will be no adjustment in the fixtures.
The LBA boss added that basketball lovers had hoped to see the game in the County Meet this year, but the Ministry of Youth and Sports informed the LBA that basketball was not going to be part of the tournament, something he said they informed stakeholders of.
According to the organizers of the national sports festival, basketball was omitted because of limited financial support to the Counties. “I’m making this call to stakeholders of the LBA because we all thought that the game of basketball was part of the ongoing National County Sports Meets. But before the resumption of county meets, the Ministry of Youth and Sports made it clear to the LBA that basketball was not part of the tournament, which we all agreed on. We have already made it clear to officials of the LBA and resisted teams that our league will continue while the National County Sports Meets continue,” Samukai said.
The LBA boss furthered that most of the LBA third division league games will be played at the Open Air Sports Commission on Broad Street so that all of the league games will go on as scheduled. He said it will also help to complete the league on time and called on all third division registered teams to follow their game scheduled and the rules governing the game for the common growth of basketball in Liberia.
