Monrovia – Defending champions of the Liberia Football Association First Division League, LISCR FC, continued to prove they are the best team in the country with a victory over title contender Bea Mountain FC. The Shipping on Friday made it two wins from two games with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Robert Lartey’s Bea Mountain at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in central Monrovia.
LISCR, who started the defense of their title with a 2-0 win over NPA Anchors, went into the match with Bea Mountain knowing that it was going to be a tough one for both sides. Bea Mountain dominated most parts of the game but was unable to convert any of the chances they had as the first half of an intensive match ended 0-0.
Maliki Kromah, who struggled to contain Fallah Sheriff, headed in a corner in the two minutes of added time. Bea Mountain FC had an early goal ruled out for offside.
Fallah Sheriff, who returned from IE to Bea Mountain this season, was the tormentor-in-chief, suffering the most fouls on the pitch. LISCR didn’t pose much of a threat throughout the match, but luck fell their way with an unmarked Maliki Kromah beating Henry Lloyd with a powerful header.
LISCR fans left the ATS with the brightest faces, while the entertaining Bea Mountain spectators held their heads down in pain. The result means the champions have collected six points from two matches, while Bea Mountain FC has 1 point in two games.
In the early kickoff at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, Global Pharma Football Club came from a goal down to secure a point against traditional club Mighty Barrolle. Amadiah Kawah headed in the much-needed equalizer in the 78th minute to ensure Global Pharma walked home with a point in their second match of the season. Nuch Zohn had earlier given Mighty Barrolle the lead in the 16th minute.
Under heavy rainfall in the second half, Global Pharma took more possession but allowed the Barrolle Keeper to be on holiday as the Rollers resorted to parking the bus. Mighty Barrolle should have killed the game in added time, except that their attacker was overly anxious to finish properly. The result means Mighty Barrolle has 4 points from two matches, while Global Pharma has just one point after two games.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, in continuation of the First Division league, the much-anticipated Paynesville Derby between newcomers Paynesville FC and Watanga FC ended in an entertaining draw at the SKD Practice Pitch in Paynesville City. Farsedu Logan, Watanga captain, came off the bench to give Watanga the lead in the 61st minute. Watanga had opportunities in the early stages of the second half but just couldn’t show anything for it.
After Logan’s goal, Paynesville mounted pressure on their opponents for the equalizer. Paynesville FC star player Edward Ledlum put a smile on the faces of his supporters when he leveled things with a lovely set piece. Watanga FC now has four points from two games, while Paynesville FC has two points from two matches.
In other results, Heaven Eleven beat Freeport FC 3-1. Heaven Eleven came from a goal down to seal a 3-1 win over Freeport FC at the Tusa Sports Pitch on Saturday. Prince Gbeh opened the scoring for Freeport FC. Heaven Eleven was reduced to 10 men in the first half but still fought their way back to collect all three points. Prince Mator’s goal and a brace from Yaya Bility were enough to give the Messengers from Heaven all three points. Heaven Eleven now has six points from two games, while Freeport FC is still in search of their first point following back-to-back defeats to Mighty Barrolle and Heaven Eleven.
Invincible Eleven and Nimba Kwado settled for a goalless draw at the ATS on Saturday evening, September 16th. Kwado has now failed to win a game against IE in their last two meetings. The Sunshine Yellow boys collected a win and draw on both occasions.
