Monrovia – President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf early Wednesday morning visited Monrovia Football Academy located at the BYC practice ground in Central Monrovia commonly called “Blue Field”, which is owned by Mr. Robert Sirleaf and interacted with both male and female soccer students – while promising her support to the program.
President Sirleaf said her visit to the Academy was in two parts: First to welcome Jill Ellis, U.S Women’s National Team Head Coach and 2015 FIFA Coach of the year; Ashlyn Harris, U.S. National Team Women’s goalkeeper to Liberia and to commend the family of the Monrovia Football Academy for developing the talents of young people particularly the children of Liberia.
Blue Field is also the home to one of the nation’s emerging football clubs, Barrack Young Controllers (BYC), owned by Mr. Robert Sirleaf.
Interacting with the kids, the Liberian leader encouraged them stay in school and continue to do well in their lessons and be good and productive citizens of Liberia.
She said she was proud to see them playing soccer, “ I am pleased to be here and see how you are doing, adding, if you played well you can be like George Weah who played and became world best or be like me if you want to be President.
She commended U.S Ambassador to Liberia Christine Elder for the arrangement of the gathering and the two facilitators from America and all of those who form part of the arrangement including the Management of Monrovia Football Academy among others.
President Sirleaf was accompanied to Monrovia Football Academy by Ministers of Youth and Sports, Information, among others.
