Roberts’s appreciation comes days after his side Down Town FC won the LFA Central Monrovia Sub-committee third division league title.
Downtown FC’s championship was confirmed on Sunday, March 31, 2024, following their archrival Mamba Point Warriors FC’s narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Lofa FC at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia.
Speaking to the FrontPage Africa sports desk, Roberts disclosed that his team won the championship based on the skillful manner in which his head Coach Jasper Koon and members of his technical staff worked together with their players on and off the field, something he said contributed immensely to their success.
He is therefore calling on his players and coaches to now focus their undivided attention on the Montserrado County playoff.
“We have completed one of our two objectives in the league, which is by qualifying for the playoff of the league, but our main objective of participating in the league is to qualify for the second division of the LFA. So, I want you as head Coach and players to take each of your playoff games seriously,” Robert, who is a former Liberian international player, said.
He continued that he is making the call because his team’s head coach, members of his technical staff, and players know very well that their main target in the league is to qualify for the second division of the LFA, and so it is time for them to keep on their training process because the team training is one of the key aspects of football team management.
“I am pleased to pay tribute to you, members of my team Down Town FC, for accomplishing one of our two main objectives of taking part in the league by winning the LFA Central Monrovia Sub-committee third division league title, but I want you to now focus your attention on the playoff challenges ahead of you because our second and main objective of you taking part in the league is to qualify for the second division,” he added.
“I want you to know that our dream would only come to reality if you as head coach, members of your technical staff, and players deliver the necessary results on and off the ball with good sportsmanship.”
He extended thanks and appreciation to fans and sympathizers of Down Town FC for their continuous support, which he described as very encouraging, and hoped that they will continue to cheer the team to victory until their dream of advancing to the second division stage of Liberian football comes to light.
but called on his team head Coach Joseph Koon members of his technical staff and athletes to now focus there undivided attentions on the playoff stage of the league.
