MONROVIA – The reigning Upper Women’s Division champions experienced another disappointing title-winning celebration at the Tusa Sports Pitch following Ambassadors FC’s failure to field more than 7 players for the match. Having experienced similar disappointment with Blanco FC last month, the back-to-back champions were forced to reckon with the match officials’ decision to postpone the celebration to a later date, leaving fans disenchanted after trooping in numbers to witness the historical celebration of their beloved club.
Despite the postponement of the celebration, President of Determine Girls Grace Hawa Weah, alias Master Queen, pulled out a surprise team dinner with the title-winning squad at a hotel in Monrovia following her arrival from Nigeria on Saturday. With clubs not showing up for games, it is now time for the Liberia Football Association to take a bold step in penalizing clubs that are constantly involved in shying away from games. Fans have warned the LFA that if issues aren’t addressed, they will continue to witness similar situations week in and week out in the next league seasons to come.
With an extraordinary four league titles to their name, Determine Girls will become the first club in Liberian women’s football history to win four league titles in a row, also becoming the first Liberian club to win a Zonal club competition and the first Liberian female club to play at a CAF Interclub tournament. Only Earth Angels (8) have won more league titles than the reigning Upper Women’s Division champions.
