Kakata, Margibi County-The Youth League of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change has successfully held a three day National Retreat- 2016 in Kakata, Margibi County calling on partisans to work to win the 2017 presidential election.
At the end of the retreat which was held under the theme” Answering the call to reclaim a CDC victory -2017” , party Chairman, Nathaniel F. McGill admonished the delegates for their resilience and continuous support to the forward march of the CDC, terming them as the engine and foot soldiers of the movement.
He called on them to remain committed because CDC is poise to become the next ruling party with Amb. George M. Weah the next president of Liberia.
The Vice Chairman for Operations Mulbah K. Morlu who spoke on the topic Doctrine and Philosophy of the CDC said the CDC philosophy is premised on the liberation and economic emancipation of the ordinary citizens.
Morlu said as a consequence of bad governance and misrule, a violent military coup in April 1980 overthrew the ruling oligarchy and in December 1989 that witnessed a 14 years civil unrest and occasioned years of deprivation and corruption.
He said, the CDC was founded to inspire national Liberation imbued with the aspirations of the Liberian people for democratic social, economic and political change, usher in a new generation of leaders united to create an all-inclusive Liberia in which the people shall participate equally in governance and enjoy equal rights and access, opportunities for all without regards to sex, tribe, religion or political affiliation.
At the opening ceremony the Guest speaker of the program Mr. Monseray Momoh who spoke on the topic “Wholesome and Functioning Leadership: Young people as Leader” encouraged the delegates to adequately prepare themselves for the greatest task ahead come 2017.
He stated that if the CDC is to become the next ruling party, the young people will be the one that can achieve that on the basis of the leadership role played and the functioning of the entire leadership of the CDC.
Mr. Momoh cautioned that the party leaders should be effective and efficient in their engagements saying that the 2017 elections will be a clear opportunity for the CDC to provide the kind of leadership the Liberian people have been crying for.
Leaders and members from members and leaders of the Fifteen (15) counties of the Youth League converged to review policy documents and derive a roadmap for the 2017 Presidential and Legislative elections.
The three days retreat witnessed counties leaders presenting the challenges, opportunity and strength of the CDC in their respective counties thereby presenting a comprehensive analysis of the CDC.
Speaking at the first day of the Retreat, the Chairman of the Youth League Jefferson T. Koijee lamented the essence of the retreat stating that, the three days retreat is one of the programs of the Youth League intended to gather a fair share of happenings around the country, adopting a standing rule, and deriving a road map to victory 2017.
He said, it is important to bring together all of the county leaders and national executive committee members of the Youth League to adequately prepare to reclaim a CDC victory come 2017.
According to a statement from the Youth League, the retreat was full of interactions and exchanges of ideas between the counties delegate and the Executive of the Youth League. The last day of the retreat saw the delegates overwhelmingly voting for the passage and adoption of the standing rules guiding members of the Youth League after hours of deliberations on the document; the retreat also witnessed the crossing over of scores of partisans from the Unity Party and the Alternative Native Congress.
The statement indicated that Mr. Nelson Torbor a high ranking member of the ANC who hailed from Grand Kru spoke on behalf of the new recruits, expressing his delight of joining the CDC stating that the CDC is the only political party after their thorough investigation that can liberate and bring economic freedom to the suffering and dejected masses of Liberians.
The statement added that Mr. Torbor further lamented on behalf of the group that over the years Amb. George M. Weah has demonstrated a great sense of leadership and patriotism; and is indeed prepared to lead a new Liberia for the betterment of our people.
The retreat which commenced on Friday June 24, 2016 with a grand parade of delegates from the counties and executives through the principal streets of Kakata; starting from the BWI to the famous Survival and International Conference hall on the outskirt of the city.
The parade was led by Koijee the chairman of the Revolutionary National Youth League and the program ended on Sunday June 26, 2017 with the awarding of certificate of recognition to all the county Chairpersons for their commitment and dedication, adoption of the standing rules, deriving a roadmap and a football match that saw Executive of the Youth League going against the Margibi All-star. The retreat brought together over 400 participants including Chairpersons and Secretary General of the 15 counties, national leaders and partisans of the CDC in Margibi County.
