Monrovia – Marketers of the Waterside General Market of the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA) have pledged their support to the Presidential bid of Presidential hopeful Benoni W. Urey of the All Liberia Party-ALP come 2017.
The marketers pledged their support over the weekend at the Waterside market at a Queen Contest of the Waterside General market.
Reading the statement of support on behalf of the marketers, Mrs. Esther Sambola, said their decision is based on the fact that Mr. Urey is a businessman who can represent their interest and speak on their behalf. They presented to Mr. Urey a broom and urged him to clean the Liberian society of all the ills including corruption.
“We are supporting you and we are with because you are a business man and we believe you are the only one amongst all those wanting to be President who can speak for us and represent our interest” , Mrs. Sambola stressed.
The marketers added that they are no longer able to send their children to school from proceeds generated from their businesses because of very low earnings due to government’s inability to control prices on the market…
”There is no price control in the market, so our businesses cannot even help us send our children…as a result of this, our children are loitering in the streets without education and no one to give them hope but instead, people are giving them bad names.”
The marketers also lauded Mrs. Mai Bright Urey whom they described as a strong pillar behind Mr. Urey’s success for working with market women.
“Behind every successful man is a strong and determined woman…your current work with marketers especially women assures us that you can make a better 1st Lady of the Republic”, Mrs. Sambola said.
Responding, Mr. Urey thanked the marketers and described their decision as patriotic and in the interest of the country. He told them that he and the All Liberian Party-ALP have hope for Liberia and guarantee for a brighter future for all Liberians irrespective of social, economic, religious, political etc background, admonishing them to love one another first and love Liberia.
“The All Liberian Party-ALP has leaders who have been here with you all through and has hope for you and a brighter future for our country. We represent your struggle, change and future. No matter the circumstances, we have and will always be with you too” Mr. Urey said.
The Political leader of the ALP encouraged the marketers and all Liberians to dream about a new Liberia with a brighter future cautioning them not to vote strangers who will come with empty promises and don’t understand what Liberians are going through.
”They are coming again from America and other parts of the world, but remember where you are now and how you suffered, how our children have become wayward. Do not vote for strangers, don’t vote for what they say they will do but vote for what they have done”
Mr. Urey pointed out that the decisions Liberians will make in the 2017 elections are very critical for the development of our country.
”We got to take the mansion together. Your vote is critical in 2017. Everyone, the world over is looking at Liberia. If you cast the wrong vote, and your brothers and sisters get sick and die, you kill them; if your children can not go to school and get education, you are the cause Let’s roll up our sleeves and trousers and go from house to house, tell our people that enough is enough!”
The Business tycoon pledged to take some hard but necessary decisions to fix the country using the broom calling on all Liberians to join the fight against corruption and all forms of societal ills in our country.
“This country is bad now but we can fix it, it is our responsibility to rehabilitate our children. We will do this to our best if you make us President. I have confidence in you.”
