Wakins, who recently secured the nomination of the Liberian People’s Party (LPP) following a successful primary on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, is set to go head-to-head with the controversial incumbent, Representative Yekeh Kolubah.
The journalist-turned-politician has gained popularity as the face of the youthful population in District #10 and has been actively empowering the community through the Watkins Initiative For Nations, which has positively impacted the lives of thousands of Liberians within and outside the district.
In his campaign, Wakins has pledged to bring about positive change and prioritize the needs of his constituents. He aims to focus on key issues affecting the district’s development and growth, such as better education, improved healthcare, and infrastructure development. Additionally, he emphasizes the importance of transparency, accountability, and inclusive representation in the Liberian legislature.
Wakins believes that District #10 deserves a representative with technical expertise to address the governance and leadership lapses at both the district and national levels. He is determined to work towards a more efficient use of resources and investments in the country’s development, citing an example of redirecting funds spent on rice importation to invest in the nation’s soil.
His strong developmental stance within District #10 has earned him praise from the LPP’s Montserrado County Chairman, George Tarr. Tarr commended Wakins for his outstanding contributions to the community and expressed confidence in his ability to secure victory for the LPP in the upcoming elections.
In the LPP’s primary, Wakins emerged as the undisputed winner, as his colleagues viewed his candidacy as formidable and chose not to contest against him, likening the challenge to a motorbike meeting a truck in an accident.
As the election approaches, all eyes are on District #10 to witness a battle between the incumbent Yekeh Kolubah and the fresh face of politics, Solomon Wakins. The outcome will undoubtedly have significant implications for the district and the nation at large.
