KAKATA, Margibi County — Despite the endorsement of opposition Unity Party’s Joseph Boakai by the political leader of the All Liberian Coalition Party (ALCOP), Lusinee Kamara, in the upcoming November 14 runoff presidential election, the leadership of Margibi County’s ALCOP chapter, along with thousands of its members, have chosen to endorse incumbent President George M. Weah’s bid for a second term.
In a well-attended endorsement ceremony held over the weekend in Kakata, Margibi County, the entire leadership of the JNB Tact Team in Margibi also endorsed President George M. Weah’s second-term bid ahead of the November 14 presidential runoff election.
The leadership of these two institutions cited the peace and development that have been fostered by the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government in the country as the basis for their support for President Weah in the presidential runoff election. They emphasized that their decision was not driven by selfish or political motives but rather by their trust in the president and his commitment to providing basic social amenities in an atmosphere of peace and dialogue, free from political intimidation.
“As the leadership and members of ALCOP, religious communities, and business stakeholders gather numerous voters, including youth, elders, and women today, to create a historical moment that will lead Margibi County towards lasting peace and development, the Margibi chapter of the All Liberian Coalition Party and its partners acknowledge the human and infrastructure developments initiated across Liberia by President George M. Weah,” noted the ALCOP’s Margibi leadership.
Agnes S. Parker, the spokesperson of Margibi County’s ALCOP chapter, presented the official endorsement statement, mentioning the significant contributions of Presidential Aide Sekou Kalasco Damaro to Margibi County as a key factor in their decision. The ALCOP’s Margibi County leadership expressed their gratitude to Mr. Damaro for his contributions, especially in the areas of healthcare facilities and scholarships for Margibi County youths. They pledged their unwavering support for President Weah’s reelection, largely attributing it to Mr. Damaro’s efforts.
“For these reasons, we commit to openly, fearlessly, and tirelessly support the campaign activities of the CDC starting today for the sake of our brother. We will go from door to door and reach out to everyone in Margibi and its surroundings to encourage them to vote for number two on November 14, 2023,” vowed Margibi’s ALCOP.
Joseph Dolo, the former Chairman of the Margibi chapter of the JNB Tact Team, explained that their decision to endorse President Weah over Unity Party and its standard bearer, Joseph N. Boakai, was made in the best interest of the people of Margibi and Liberia. He emphasized the importance of evaluating political choices during critical times.
“At times like this, people of goodwill must answer the call to support what is best for our country. When Liberia is presented with the choice of who can be trusted with the leadership of our great nation, we must rally behind President Weah,” Joseph Dolo stated.
Receiving these separate endorsements on behalf of President George M. Weah, Presidential Aide Sekou Kalasco Damaro described the endorsements as a significant moment for President Weah and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) party. He expressed his satisfaction in seeing mothers, brothers, uncles, and sisters demonstrating genuine determination to offer their support.
Mr. Damaro pointed out that the endorsement of President Weah by the leadership of Margibi’s ALCOP chapter contradicts the endorsement of opposition Unity Party’s standard bearer, Joseph N. Boakai, by the ALCOP’s political leader, Lusinee Kamara.
“These are our people; these are our mothers and fathers, and they trust us,” Mr. Damaro said.
Mr. Damaro also urged the crowd to consider voting for President Weah on November 14, emphasizing that doing so would be in the best interest of Liberia and its people.
