MONROVIA – Dr. Clarence Moniba, the Standard Bearer of the Liberia National Union, has shared his party’s stance and key priorities as the country heads into the presidential runoff election.
Dr. Moniba acknowledged the recent announcement by the National Elections Commission (NEC) regarding the two parties that advanced to the runoff, the Coalition of Democratic Change (CDC) and the Unity Party (UP). He underlined the importance of respecting the will of the Liberian voters and expressed the party’s acceptance of the results as announced by the NEC.
During his address, Dr. Moniba outlined the primary areas of focus for his party during the negotiations with the two runoff parties:
Infrastructure and Roads: Dr. Moniba stressed the significance of investing in infrastructure and road development. His party is committed to securing funding for and constructing four major roads across the country, including the Sanniquellie to Zwedru Road in Nimba and Grand Gedeh Counties, the Robertsport Highway in Cape Mount County, the Salayea to Foya Road in Lofa County, and the Buchanan to Rivercess stretch of road in Grand Bassa and Rivercess Counties.
Technical and Vocational Education: Dr. Moniba highlighted the need for technical and vocational training opportunities for young people in every county. He emphasized the importance of creating modern Technical and Vocational colleges in all regions of Liberia to address the demand for skills outside the traditional classroom.
Healthcare: The party will prioritize healthcare, with a focus on renovating, equipping, and staffing government hospitals across the country. Prominently, they aim to improve facilities at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) and Jackson F. Doe (JFD) Medical Centers.
Dr. Moniba acknowledged that these were not the only issues discussed during the negotiations. The party is also addressing the high rate of unemployment, law and order, the fight against corruption, drug issues, and the need for more stable electricity nationwide.
As the second-round elections are three weeks away, Dr. Moniba promised to announce the party’s endorsement in the shortest possible time. He emphasized the importance of a prudent, well-thought-out process and urged against rushing into decisions that may not stand the test of time.
In closing, Dr. Moniba expressed gratitude for participating in the presidential race and thanked his running mate, Mdm. Grace T. Kpaan, and their numerous supporters for their dedication. He encouraged his supporters, assuring them that although they might not have achieved their ultimate goal this time, they had “fallen forward” and would return better prepared.
The Liberia National Union’s priorities for the presidential runoff reflect their commitment to addressing the pressing issues facing the nation and fulfilling their vision of “A New Liberia” that caters to the needs of the youth and the broader population.
