Monrovia – The Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, is urging Liberians to continually be religiously tolerant one toward the other. Mr. Cummings’ ccomment comes at the time when Liberian Muslims have joined their counterparts worldwide to celebrate the Eid festival.
He extended to the Liberian Muslims Community and Muslims worldwide his warmest wishes on the Eid al-Adha festival.
In Mr. Cummings’ message to Muslims, he stated, “On behalf of the ANC, my family and myself, I want to extend our warmest wishes to our Muslim brothers and sisters, who joined other Muslims around the world to celebrate Eid al-Adha or Eid Qurban. On this day, Muslims celebrate the strong faith of Abraham, when he was willing to sacrifice his son, Isaac.”
The ANC’s Political Leader further added: “We join hands with our Muslims brothers and sisters to pray for our nation, our families and our neighbors. Religion plays a major role in our national culture and we want to call on Liberians to look beyond religious differences and focus on what brings us closer.”
Mr. Cummings than wished for Almighty Allah’s blessing upon Liberia and strengthen Liberians’ religious tolerance and respect for each other.
The ANC’s Political Leader has always identified with Liberian Muslims.
On Monday, May 27, 2019, Cummings completed the donation of US$6,000 to the construction of a mosque in Bolonqoidu Town, Quadu-Bonu District, Lofa County.
He had initially made a donation of US$3000 to the construction during the 2017 Presidential and General Elections campaign season. Mr. Cummings, though being a Christian, had promised his Muslims brothers and sisters an additional US$3000 towards the same venture telling them that the balance was available whenever they were ready for it.
So, on that Monday, the spiritual leader of the mosque, Imam Amara Kamara, having reached out to Mr. Cummings two weeks earlier to inform him of the progress of the mosque, was presented with the balance amount for the completion of the House of God.
Also, on Tuesday, June 25, the ANC’s Secretary-General, Mr. Aloysius Toe, on behalf of party’s Political Leader, presented a 30-KVA generator to the administration of Liberia’s first Islamic university — Annur University. Mr. Toe said that he was personally proud to carry out the hand out on behalf of Mr. Cummings who, he said has made and continues to make great contributions to the educational sector in the nation. One such example is the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) School that Mr. Cummings built in Paynesville.
Addressing the university administration, Mr. Toe said that “Building a center of higher learning is no small enterprise but it is the most worthy cause anyone can and should invest in.”
“We strongly believe that among the many causes of our conflict, the lack of education is now believed to be one of the root causes.”
Toe praised those who conceived the idea of establishing the nation’s first Islamic University, which he termed as the type of self-help initiative that will develop the Liberian society. “Mr. Cummings wants to praise you for setting an example. Our political leader strongly believes that we must take responsibility for our own advancement, which can only come with education.”
