Monrovia- The West African Examination Council, WAEC, has been alarmed over what it termed, “scam materials” being waned on various social media, and being indicated as the 2024 examination document.
The concerns come a few days, as Senior High School Students across the country are taking their West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE.
What appears to be purported documents, which depicted WASSCE questions and answers recently surfaced on social media, drawing serious public concerns.
However, WAEC, through its Secretariat said that the proliferation of said material is unwarranted.
WAEC Secretariat sees the circulation of these phony questions and answers for school candidates, 2024, on social media, specifically Facebook, Telegram & WhatsApp platforms as unwholesome, attributing it to some “unscrupulous individuals” who it said, are bent on bringing the Council to public disrepute.
“Sadly and regrettably, some of these individuals are school authorities.
The Secretariat wishes to state categorically that materials being shared or posted may be fictitious and cautions candidates and their parents along with school authorities to refrain from falling for such scams,” WAEC noted in a communication issued Tuesday, May 22.
The West African Examination Body further warned individuals against falling prey to said swindling, noting that the sole intent of these paper peddlers is to enrich the progenitors, at the detriment of the candidates.
Nevertheless, these gimmicks, the Secretariat has assured the public that it has multi-dimensional measures in place to mitigate attempts by those bent on perpetrating said menace, as the Council is collaborating with state security actors to bring the perpetrators to book.
“The Council appreciates the level of support from these security actors in the fight against examination malpractice during the conduct of WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024, and is counting on them to be more robust in this fight for the betterment of the country’s educational system,” the communication averred.
At the same time, the Council has called on the public to assist in curbing any form of academic malfeasance, by reporting examination malpractices that come to its notice.
WAEC Secretariat has meanwhile, scowled schools and candidates engaged in camping and the payment of flexibility fees for the sole purpose of being assisted before, during, and after the administration of the examination, thereby calling on them to desist or have themselves to blame or beater the necessary consequences.
Despite the “dreadful” situation, the Council pledged to remain a “World Class Examining Body” to continuously conduct credible examinations in the public interest of Liberia and the sub-region.
