MONROVIA – In the midst of recent media reports implicating senior management, the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) says it remains resolute in its commitment to lawfully collect revenue for the people of Liberia. Despite controversies surrounding Deputy Commissioner General for Administrative Affairs, Samuel Bennett Jr., the authority underscored its dedication to fulfilling its mandate.
A recent development has been the suspension of Assistant Commissioner for Real Estate, James Afif Jaber, which has stirred attention and raised questions about the internal dynamics of the LRA. In response, the LRA has issued a statement emphasizing that the suspension aligns with the authority’s Human Resource Manual, Disciplinary Guide, and Professional Ethics Standards.
Contrary to claims made by James and his legal representation regarding the social media publication of his suspension letter, the LRA asserts that such allegations are misleading. The authority contends that the disciplinary action taken against James follows due process outlined in its internal guidelines.
The LRA points to Section 14.3 of its Human Resource Manual and Procedures (HRMP), which grants individuals like James the right to appeal against penalties, such as suspension, through the Commissioner General’s office. However, the authority strongly condemns the act of publicizing internal matters through the media, deeming it unacceptable behavior. The LRA insists that administrative issues should be resolved through proper channels and not in the public domain.
While acknowledging the right to appeal, the LRA reaffirms its commitment to the principles of professionalism and confidentiality in handling internal matters. The authority stresses that the proper resolution of internal disputes is essential for maintaining a conducive working environment and upholding the integrity of the organization.
Amidst these internal challenges, the LRA says it is keen to reassure the public and stakeholders that its focus on fulfilling its mandate to collect revenue for the country’s development remains unwavering. The authority affirms its dedication to transparency, accountability, and adherence to legal procedures in carrying out its responsibilities.
