Monrovia – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia has dismissed Mr. Benjamin S. Karmorh, Jr., the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA), following his alleged involvement in a criminal attempt to take over the agency on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
Mr. Karmorh, according to a release from the EPA, along with two suspended employees and other individuals, disrupted normal operations within the Agency by falsely claiming he was the new head, asserting that Prof. Tarpeh’s term had concluded. This unauthorized takeover was in direct violation of the laws, rules, and regulations governing the EPA.
The dismissal letter issued to Mr. Karmorh highlighted the serious nature of his impersonation and the unlawful actions that led to the disruption of normal activities within the EPA. Such actions exposed the agency to undesirable public ridicule and posed a risk to its corporate reputation.
According to the release, contrary to Mr. Karmorh’s reliance on Executive Order #123 to justify his criminal actions, the EPA clarified that this order applies to non-tenured entities and does not extend to tenured agencies of the Government. The Executive Director/CEO position at the EPA is a tenured role with a seven renewable term.
The EPA emphasized its commitment to adhering to legal and regulatory frameworks governing its operations, underscoring its dedication to environmental protection and sustainable development. The agency assured the public that the dismissal of Mr. Karmorh aims to maintain the integrity of its mission and uphold the principles of good governance.
