MONROVIA – H.E. Kingsford Amoako, Ghana’s Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Liberia congratulated the Government and People of Liberia for celebrating 20 years of uninterrupted peace and wished all Liberians well as they head to the polls on Tuesday 10th October, 2023. He congratulated all Liberians for keeping the peace and further appealed to the citizenry to guard that achievement, while continuing to exhibit commitment to peace before, during and after the October elections.
The Ambassador-Designate expressed his well wishes to Liberians when he presented his Open Letters to Ambassador Dee Maxwell Saah Kemaya Sr., Minister of Foreign Affairs on Thursday 5th October, 2023 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Capitol Hill.
Ambassador Amoako intimated that Ghana and Liberia share long-standing historical, economic and cultural relationships, which is visible in the presence of Ghanaian Communities across the length and breadth of Liberia, and their contributions to the Liberian economy, particularly in the fishing industry.
Ambassador Kingsford Amoako, who served previously as Director for Finance at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana, expressed the optimism that during his tour of duty, close relations under the General Cooperation Agreement, signed between Ghana and Liberia on 17th June, 2014, would be bolstered, and assured of Ghana’s readiness to have its first inaugural session of Ghana-Liberia Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation.
He stated that Ghana avails itself to cooperate in trade and investment, energy and mineral resources, education, agriculture, tourism, science and technology, capacity building, among others, to exploit the potential benefits of AfCFTA as Africa strives to achieve economic emancipation. Specifically, Ambassador Amoako called on Liberia and Ghana to leverage their fraternal relations to cooperate closely in the areas of regional security and counter-terrorism under the Accra Initiative, as well as maritime security where both countries stand to benefit a great deal.
On his part, Amb. Kemayah Sr., Foreign Minister of the Republic of Liberia, congratulated Ambassador Amoako on his appointment and indicated that Liberia and Ghana share great bonds of friendship which is evidenced by the invaluable support provided by Ghana that ensured the stability and security of Liberia’s people during the long period of crises that engulfed the country. He emphasized that Liberia now enjoys peace thanks in part to the contribution of Ghana and is on the path of development and transformation.
The Foreign Minister recalled the role Ghana played in the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in August, 2003 that brought lasting peace to Liberia and assured the Ambassador-Designate that in spite of the instability in the sub region, President George Manneh Weah has shown respect for rule of law and exhibited democratic principles under the Constitution and respect for the 2023 Farmington River Declaration signed by all political parties.
Ambassador Kemayah, in stressing the importance of bilateral partnership to achieve the common goals of socio-economic development and improving the living standards of citizens, assured that the establishment of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation will further expand economic and technical cooperation in all critical sectors of the economy of both Ghana and Liberia.
Foreign Minister Kemaya Sr., extended his warmest congratulations to Ambassdor Amoako and assured of his Ministry’s unwavering support in making his tour of duty in Liberia a fruitful one. Ambassador Amoako is expected to present his Credentials to His Excellency President George Manneh Weah at a later date.
