MONROVIA –The Senior Pastor of the Providence Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Samuel B. Reeves, has accused the regime of President George Weah of inflicting so much hardship on Liberians since his assumption of office in 2018, adding that the country needs a different leadership in October to move forward.

“I am not here to tell you who to vote for and who not to vote for. Those of you on the side of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), I am not saying you should not vote, but even if you vote for George Weah as the next president, he can’t lead this nation forward to the way he met it, tell him I said so. He can’t lead this nation with squanderers, rogues and people who are around him to make their pockets fat,” he said.
Rev. Dr. Reeves’ spoke Sunday at the church’s edifice on Broad and Ashmun Streets during his regular Elections Special Series entitled: “Surveying the Leadership Landscape and the Essential Characters of Leadership under the theme: “The Leader’s ability to lead up” with text taken from the Book of Nehemiah 2:1-8.
Rev. Dr. Reeves started his series two weeks ago, for which the first sermon spoke about: “The Leader’s concern for the work, taken from Nehemiah 1:1-4 and the second sermon focused on the Leader’s ability to pray for help, taken from Nehemiah 1-5.
Rev. Reeves said he once told some ministers, including the former Minister of States for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill, in a meeting that no president in the world can run a country by themselves; this is why he or she puts qualified people and not crooks around them. And he said after his statement, one of the ministers said to him: “Rev. this is why all your letters you wrote the president that are in the draw will never reach the president,” he said
He said because of the kind of people President Weah has around him, that do not want him to hear the truth, they only tell him thing he wants to hear like:‘Mr. President, the country is sweet, Mr. president, the people respect you around the world and Mr. president, everything is fine.’
I am not here to tell you who to vote for and who not to vote for. Those of you on the CDC side, I am not saying you should not vote, but even if you vote for George Weah as the next president, he can’t lead this nation forward to the way he met it, tell him I said so. He can’t lead this nation with squanderers, rogues and people around him whose desires to make their pockets fat,” says Rev. Samuel B. Reeves Jr
“I am not on any side, but whoever wins, we can’t do things the old Liberian ways, we want a president who will lead by example, not the president who when it’s time to connect a road and break down a house and someone comes and says my son, ‘’that house is my grandson’s house there and he leaves it.” Liberia, according to him, needs a president who would ‘’break it down and put the road there.’’
‘’If Liberians keep doing things the old ways, the results will always be the same. But Liberia needs a re-shape that will touch every aspect of the nation,” he said
Rev. Reeves said for too long Liberians have been acting selfish, therefore, a leader should possess good character, a leader should know how to pray for his nation. Quoting verse three of Nehemiah, he said a leader should know how to lead himself, in order to lead others, but sometimes, there are leaders who do not know how to lead themselves.
He further said Nehemiah had to learn how to lead himself, as the King’s cup bearer, and the man who served the King’s wine, and the one after the King’s heart, and it took Nehemiah four months after he had heard about the destruction of Judah in order to approach the King at the right time, so he waiting when it was time for him to pour the King’s wine and he had the King’s attention.
“And in verse four, the King asked Nehemiah “What do you want,” after he noticed that something was wrongafter seeing the expression on Nehemiah’s face. And the same verse four said Nehemiah prayed to God of Heaven before requesting of the King, because before you speak to the King, you have to talk to the king of Kings and Lord of Lords, who makes the way out of no way, to intercede on his behalf before asking the King. He was humble in his request, in verse five and seven, Nehemiah asked respectfully and said: if it pleases the King and if I have found favor in your sight please grant me this request. Those two verses are for leaders who are humble to lead up,” he added.
