Monrovia – President George Weah has nominated Samora P.Z. Wolokolie as the new Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA). The appointment, made late last year, is now pending confirmation by the Honorable Liberian Senate, in accordance with the 1986 Liberian Constitution.
If confirmed, Dr. Wolokolie will succeed the late Thomas Doe Nah, who held the position since 2020 until his unfortunate passing last month due to illness.
Wolokolie, the current Deputy Minister of Finance for Development Planning, has been a key figure in the CDC administration since 2018. With a profile encompassing over 18 years of service, he is recognized as an accomplished Liberian Public Financial expert and Lawyer.
His career, spanning Public Finance, Certified Public Accounting, Forensic Auditing, and Law, reflects a commitment to ethical professionalism and dedication. As the Deputy Minister for Fiscal Affairs at Liberia’s Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, he has overseen the nation’s fiscal economy, designed fiscal policies, and supervised all government accounting operations and expenditure proposals.
Dr. Wolokolie’s expertise extends beyond the public sector, including roles as Managing Partner at BICON. INC. Liberia, Director of Internal Audit at the Ministry of Finance, and various high-level positions in renowned firms. In academia, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the Stella Maris Polytechnic University, University of Liberia, imparting knowledge and contributing to research in the field.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and MSc. in Forensic Accounting & Audit, an MBA in Accounting, and a Bachelor of Law (L.L.B.). Dr. Wolokolie is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics at the Faculty of Social Science and Law, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
A member of several professional bodies, including the Liberia National Bar Association, Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana), and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (USA), Dr. Wolokolie has overseen impactful audits for USAID contractors and implemented system improvements in organizations, demonstrating adherence to auditing standards and fostering internal control enhancements.
Notably, he has authored two books, “Forensic Accounting Analytics and Pension Fund Administration: A Study of Selected Administrators in Liberia” and “Combating Money Laundering: A Guide to Forensic Investigation Professionals,” both available on Amazon.
Wolokolie, a Christian and member of the Roman Catholic Church, has been married to Mrs. Christine Reeves Wolokolie for over ten years, and they are blessed with two children: Samora P. Z. Wolokolie, Jr. and Christira Sienneh Wolokolie.
