The engagement captured market women at the ELWA, Rehab and Duport Road markets respectively. The initiatives enlightened citizens on the role they can play during and after elections to contribute to a stronger and more inclusive democracy.
Jethro Harris, is YPLSA Chairman, Alumni Post-Election Civil Engagement. Harris believes that “democracy is not just about the elections, is not just about voting. It is also about what the voting results can offer Liberians,” he said. So, since democracy is of people, by the people, it should also be for the people, so we are here to enlighten Liberians on what role they have to play after and during elections.”
The initiative also educates citizens on how to work with their lawmakers and leaders to ensure that their anticipation, including improved education, sanitation, and job creation are met.
The post-election engagement was launched to raise awareness about citizens’ rights and responsibilities, government promises, and the fight against drug abuse. Funding is provided through Naymote’s Democracy Advancement Program (DAP) with support from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). It targets four counties including Grand Bassa, Montserrado, Margibi, and Bomi.
