Monrovia – The Honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, extends his commendation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. for the recent issuance of the Executive Order 126 aimed at facilitating the recovery of misappropriated and ill-gotten assets. This decisive move marks a significant step towards combatting corruption, fostering accountability and putting an end to impunity within our nation.
In his statement, Hon. Cllr. Koffa expressed the urgent need for the legislative branch to complement this executive action by expeditiously establishing a specialized corruption court. This court will play a pivotal role in holding both past and present individuals accountable for their involvement in embezzlement and other forms of corruption that have deprived the state and its citizens of vital resources.
“The establishment of a corruption court is paramount to ensuring that justice is served and that those responsible for robbing our nation of its valuable resources are held accountable,” stated Hon. Cllr. Koffa.
The recent passage of the war and economic crimes resolution by the House of Representatives on March 4, 2024, further underscores the commitment of Liberia’s legislature to ending impunity and upholding the rule of law. Hon. Cllr. Koffa emphasized that with these concerted efforts, the era of impunity in Liberia is drawing to a close.
As custodians of the people’s trust, the House of Representatives remains resolute in its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance. Hon. Cllr. Koffa urged all stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and the general public, to unite in the collective endeavor to combat corruption and promote the well-being of all Liberians.
