MONROVIA — Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon asserts that despite his role on the rescue team that contributed to the victory of the Unity Party standard bearer, Joseph Nyumah-Boakai, he will maintain a robust oversight role as a lawmaker. He pledges to consistently scrutinize President-Elect Boakai’s nominees for ministerial positions, with the aim of improving the country and not for self-glorification.

Senator Dillon, previously a vocal critic of the George Weah Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government, declares his commitment to flagging out instances of bad governance and practices within the Joseph Boakai government. He emphasizes that such actions will be undertaken for the betterment of the country.
During his end-of-year press conference, Senator Dillon grades the Senate at 40% on a 100% scorecard and accuses it of failing to fulfill its oversight responsibility adequately. He particularly criticizes the Senate for shortcomings in scrutinizing the national budget and ensuring that ministers and government agencies adhere to their terms of reference (TOR).
Responding to questions about comments made by Senator-elect Amara Konneh of Gbapolu County, who suggested that Liberians should manage their expectations, Senator Dillon conditionally supports the comments. He emphasizes the importance of the incoming government not extinguishing the hopes of the people.
Senator Dillon underscores his stance by stating, “We should not drop the hope of the people in the fight against drug abuse. Not declaring assets on day one of leadership is not managing expectations; it’s dropping the ball at the first stage.” He advocates for President-elect Boakai and lawmakers to undergo public drug tests, setting an example for leadership.
In conclusion, Senator Dillon argues that practical measures, such as mandatory drug tests for individuals in the security sector, can elevate people’s expectations. He asserts that leadership by example is crucial in achieving positive change.
