MONROVIA – In a symbolic conclusion to the Special Session marking the end of the 6th Segment of the 54th Legislature, the Liberian Senate officially adjourned on Tuesday.
Senator Albert Tugbe Chie, the President Pro-tempore, and the Leadership Committee took a moment to express deep gratitude for the cooperation and dedication demonstrated by their fellow Senators throughout the session and the past six years.
According to a press statement from the Senate, despite the challenges faced, the Senators emphasized their sense of responsibility in ensuring that the Senate remains a cornerstone for democracy in Liberia, providing political stability, and serving as a reservoir for national leadership for the Executive Branch of Government. The unity and collaboration among Senators were underscored as crucial elements in advancing the interests of the Liberian people.
The Senate acknowledged the diversity within its ranks with pride, highlighting significant strides made in fostering inclusivity. Senators worked diligently over the years to review and pass numerous legislations, create an environment for economic growth, exercise oversight over the Executive and Judiciary Branches of Government, represent Liberia abroad with distinction, implement projects across the country, advocate for the people, and institute legislative reforms.
In a sincere address to the citizens of Liberia, the Senate expressed an indescribable debt of gratitude for their trust, unwavering support, and constructive criticism. The privilege of serving the people was emphasized as immense, coupled with the humbling responsibility of being the voice of the nation.
Special recognition was given to Senators not continuing their service in the 55th Legislature, thanking them for their dedicated public service. The Senate leadership expressed hope that new opportunities would arise for them to continue contributing to nation-building.
Appreciation was extended to the staff and employees of the Liberian Senate, acknowledging their hard work and commitment over the last six years. The Senate recognized the constitutional right of free assembly and free speech, even during times of protest, while urging the responsible exercise of these rights without infringing upon the rights of others.
