Washington D.C. – President George Manneh Weah says The Government of Liberia remains committed to ensuring that free, Fair and transparent elections are held in Liberia. “We will ensure that a conducive atmosphere is created for all to participate in the elections next year”, Dr, Weah noted in a meeting with US President Joe R. Biden recently at the White House in Washington DC.
The Liberian Leader acknowledged the pivotal role the United Sates has been playing over the years to support democracy in Liberia. “Your country has spent several millions of dollars over the years through the United States Aid for International Development-Liberia (USAID)…. and I want to thank you and the government of the US for that” President Weah said.
A dispatch signed by the Minister Counselor for Press and Public Affairs at the Embassy of Liberia near Washington DC, Al-jerome Anastas Chede Sr. says that H.E President, Weah met with President Biden to specifically discuss elections, democracy, rule of law and development in Liberia. Dr. Weah was accompanied to the White House by the Dean of the Liberian Cabinet, Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah Sr.
In his remarks, President Biden called on African Leaders to ensure that elections in their countries are carried out in a free, fair and transparent manner. The American Leader assured of US continued support to the advancement of the ideals of democracy, rule of law, peace and security and development in Liberia and the continent of Africa.
In a related development, The Newly appointed Liberian Ambassador to the United States of America, His Excellency Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Jeff Gongoer Dowana today, December 12, 2022, presented his letters of credence to United States of America President Joe R. Biden.
In a colorful ceremony, held in the Oval office of the White House, President Biden said “ It is with great pleasure that I accept your letter of credence, which establishes you as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Liberia……I would like to welcome you and family back to the United States and I look forward to working with you to expand the relations between our countries”.
President Biden furthered, “Your arrival in Washington is important on many levels. It signifies more than 158 years of friendship between our nations and our enduring commitment to trade, investment, security, and cultural exchange”.
Ambassador Dowana pensively listened to President Biden recounting that Liberia has a strong and appreciable recognition of human rights as a result of the civil war experience and that such experience has fed Liberia’s unquestionable stands against oppression anywhere in the world.
The US President assured Ambassador Dowana of America’s commitment to collaborate with Liberia in promoting global peace, economic growth, and prosperity.
The Liberian Ambassador Thanked President Biden for the kind words and promised to ably represent President Dr. George M. Weah and the resilient people of Liberia.
Besides being Liberia’s Chief of Mission accredited near Washington DC, His excellency Ambassador Dowana, has concurrent diplomatic responsibilities to Canada and Mexico.
