Monrovia – The Liberian National Police (LNP) are currently investigating Liberian businessman Jacob Knewolo, who stands accused of criminally falsifying a land deed belonging to Rosemarie Williams, a US resident. Knewolo’s alleged resistance to arrest has further escalated the situation.

Knewolo was summoned for questioning in response to a criminal complaint filed by Edward Lamin, believed to be the Attorney-In-Fact for Madam Williams.
The decision to initiate an investigation into Knewolo was authorized by Inspector General Patrick T. Sudue, who assigned Officer John Kumeh of the Anti-Theft Squad to lead the inquiry.
The incident unfolded on August 5, 2023, when Officer Kumeh, acting on instructions from IG Sudue, dispatched two officers – Boakai Tarnue and Capehart Brown – to accompany Complainant Lamin in identifying and apprehending Knewolo.
According to the officers, upon reaching the location, they informed Knewolo that he was required at the police station to address the allegations against him. Subsequently, Knewolo reportedly acquiesced and requested to contact his attorney, Bob Laywehyee.
“After notifying Attorney Bob Laywehee of the police’s intent to arrest him, Knewolo was advised by Laywehee to remain stationary,” the officers reported in their statement submitted to Officer Kumeh. They also alleged that Cllr. Laywehee contacted John Kumeh to convey that Knewolo would not cooperate voluntarily and would only comply if physically compelled by the police.
The officers claimed that Cllr. Laywehee personally appeared at the scene and resisted Knewolo’s arrest, asserting that his client would not be taken to the police station.
Following their interaction with Cllr. Laywehee, the officers informed Officer Kumeh of the obstruction of justice caused by Laywehee’s conduct. Due to the escalating tension resulting from Cllr. Laywehee’s confrontational and unprofessional behavior, the officers decided to withdraw from the scene and report the incident to Officer Kumeh.
While still present, the officers alleged that they overheard a heated exchange between Cllr. Laywehee and Officer Kumeh. According to their account, Laywehee informed Kumeh that Knewolo would only be moved from the property by force.
“The actions of Attorney Bob Laywehee not only impeded the course of justice but also undermined the very rule of law he, as a practicing lawyer, should uphold,” the officers asserted.
