Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson T. Koijee, on Wednesday, December 13, denied any relationship with Mohammed Keita. This follows an allegation made by the defense lawyer in the Charloe Musu alleged murder case, claiming that Keita had been a mediator between Mayor Koijee, Varlee Telleh, and Moses Wright, the security assigned to the home of Defendant Glorious Musu Scott.
Taking the witness stand, Jefferson T. Koijee informed the court that while he has a working relationship with Varlee Telleh, he is unsure about the perspective from which the defense seeks information regarding their communication.
Koijee clarified that Telleh, who works at the Monrovia City Corporation, has never met Mohammed Keita. He emphasized that his call logs were made available to the Ministry of Justice for verification.
He asserted that he has never known or interacted with Cllr. Scott, and his family is unaware of the incident that occurred on February 22, leading to the death of the late Charlie.
Acknowledging Varlee Telleh as a patrolman of the Monrovia City Police, Koijee maintained that there are no ambiguous dealings with Telleh, as suggested by the defense. He suggested that the GSM Company would be the best source to find all details regarding his interactions with anyone during the mentioned period.
Koijee confirmed the numbers 0776407969 and 0779229900 as his two active numbers, with one given to the police through the Ministry of Justice. He stated, “Let the defense counsel note that the numbers I called are my numbers being used, and another was sent to the Ministry of Justice to also investigate said matter.”
The defense argued that one of the numbers, (0776407969), presented to the police, was not in active use, as indicated by the Orange GSM Company. Koijee clarified that he gave his official number, 0779229900, to the Minister of Justice and not 0776407969, which was presented to the police.
During his testimony, Koijee raised concerns about his safety, stating that the defense’s offer of water could be potentially harmful. The defense countered that offering water to a witness is a customary practice and suggested that Koijee’s apprehension was unwarranted.
Koijee further submitted that when accused by Jerome Verdier of the alleged murder, he voluntarily went to the LNP Headquarters without any written communication to prove his innocence. He requested the court to subpoena Cllr. Jerome Verdier to testify on the accusations made during a talk show when the incident unfolded.
In a separate development, defense lawyer Cllr. Kuku Y. Dorbor claimed that while Koijee was on the stand, he made threatening remarks and facial expressions saying, “You will see.” Koijee denied making any threatening remarks, calling the accusation strange and surprising.
The defense requested Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie to subpoena Koijee’s official government-assigned number, 0770229900, for Orange to testify on its status. Judge Willie accepted the defense’s request to also subpoena a contact believed to be a strange number but used in communication with the wife of Varlee Telleh and Moses Wright at the time of the incident. The court granted the request, stating that the number be subpoenaed to determine its ownership and identity, as indicated by Orange.
