MONROVIA – Mr. Alexander Cummings’ former Chief of Staff has been arrested and being detained in an NSA holding cell, FrontPageAfrica has gathered.
He was picked up at the Liberian border with Sierra Leone (Bo Waterside) in Grand Cape Mount County while trying to flee the country following a tipoff that his life was in danger.
Mr. Tukpah was reportedly last seen in Tienee, Grand Cape Mount County.
It is not clear exactly where he is being held in detention, but FrontPageAfrica gathered that he was picked up at the border by operatives of the National Security Agency (NSA).
There has been no formal charges filed against him, prior to his arrest, neither has been publicly announced as a wanted person.
Mr. Tukpah resigned his post with the opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC) on Tuesday after he came under fire for publishing in a recently released book co-authored by him and Emmanuel Clarke, an alleged conversation he and President Weah had had concerning his wife, Mrs. Clar Weah.
The details of the alleged conversation as published have been condemned as an affront not only to the First Lady but womanhood.
He resigned following a request from the political leader, Cummings, who termed the publication as an “error of judgement”.
Mr. Cummings expressed his regrets over the publication, though the book was written long before Mr. Tukpah was hired to serve as his Chief of Office Staff.
Cummings said, though Mr. Tukpah has served the position with distinction, the high moral standards at the ANC have to be maintained at all cost.
“The standards of alternative leadership for our country that we have set for ourselves, now and in the future, are particularly higher than the usual, and we are determined to maintain it. It means we must stand with all those who are right, when they are right, even if they are not our friends, and refuse to stand with those who are wrong, even if they are our friends and workmates. I will continue to do so because this is the example of the quality of leadership that our country desperately needs to change course, and improve the lives of Liberians,” Cummings stated.
