MONROVIA — Members of the Liberian Senate have unanimously confirmed multiple nominees appointed to various cabinet and other positions by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

Those confirmed include: Mr. Gregory Coleman Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Abraham Kromah Director of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), and Sam Gaye Director of the Executive Protection Service (EPS).
Others are:, Bill McGill Jones Deputy Minister for Administration, Elwood T. Nettey Comptroller General, Anthony G. Myers Deputy Minister for Fiscal Affairs, Dehpue Y. Zuo Deputy Minister for Economic Management Planning and Tanneh G. Brunson Deputy Minister for Budget and Development Planning, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning .
Unity Party Chairman emeritus Amin Modad was also confirmed as Minister of Commerce and Industry.
The rest confirmed are: Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah Minister of Education, and Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah Minister of Agriculture.
The action was taken by the Senators following the submission of separate reports from the Senate Committees on Ways, Means, Finance and Budget, Executive, Security, National Defense,Intelligence and Veteran Affairs, Education and Public Administration, Agriculture and Fisheries and Commerce and Industry.
The confirmation of the nominees also stemmed from the holding of separate confirmation hearings by the various committees headed by Senators Prince Moye (Bong), Momo Cyrus (Lofa), Nathaniel McGill (Margibi), Alex Tyler (Bomi), amongst others.
In the reports submitted to the Senate Plenary on Tuesday, February 6, the committee observed that those confirmed possess the requisite academic qualifications, competence and experience to serve in the respective positions to which they were nominated by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Meanwhile, additional nominees, including retired Brigadier Generals Prince Johnson, Geraldine George, Daniel Ziankahn, amongst others have been forwarded to the Liberian Senate as Minister of National Defense, Deputy Minister for Operations and Ambassador at Large respectively for confirmation.
Confirmation of nominees in government by the Liberian Senate is in keeping with Article 54 of the 1986 Liberian constitution.
Amongst other things, Article 54 of the Liberian constitution states that: the President shall nominate and, with the consent of the Senate, appoint and commission cabinet ministers, deputy and assistant cabinet ministers, ambassadors, ministers, consuls, the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court and Judges of subordinate courts,” amongst others.
