Monrovia – The Liberia Diaspora Exchange (LDx), with the generous support of USAID, has entered into a partnership with Philimena.com, naming them the Social Media Ambassador for the promotion of virtual business exchanges between entrepreneurs, business owners, innovators, service providers, and professionals in Liberia and the Diaspora.
This groundbreaking collaboration aims to strengthen connections and foster economic growth between Liberia and its diaspora communities, uniting several diaspora community organizations (DCOs) such as the Liberia Community Organization of the District of Columbia (LCA-DC), the Liberia Association of Metropolitan Atlanta (LAMA), and the Liberia Business Association USA (LIBA-USA).
The partnership introduces two essential platforms designed to facilitate these virtual business exchanges. The first, the LDx Community App (https://liberian-diasporaexchange.mn.co), is set to enable engagements across individuals, communities, and professional organizations. The second platform, the Business Exchange web platform (www.liberiadx.com), seeks to promote businesses, foster business exchanges, and encourage investments in Liberia and across the Diaspora.
Ms. Royda Urey, representing Philimena.com, expressed her enthusiasm about this significant partnership, highlighting its potential to connect Liberians at home and abroad for mutually beneficial exchanges.
Mr. Jackson George, Executive Director of the Liberia Business Association of USA (LIBA-USA), speaking on behalf of the Diaspora Community Organizations (DCOs), extended his gratitude to the EIG team and USAID for their support of this initiative. He emphasized the vital role the Liberian Diaspora plays in the country’s economy, citing a contribution of over $300 million in 2021, according to the World Bank. He believes this partnership will enhance networking, resource pooling, and mutual promotion in business, ultimately creating job opportunities for the people of Liberia.
Ms. Lashea Howard Clinton, a member of the EIG team and Advisor to the LDx project, expressed her excitement about the collaboration with Royda and her team, emphasizing the importance of expanding LDx’s social media presence through the partnership with Philimena.com.
In March 2023, USAID, in conjunction with Nathan Inc., signed a Grant Agreement with Ecocap Investment Group LLC to develop and execute the Liberian Diaspora Exchange (LDx) initiative. LDx seeks to harness the power of Liberia’s Diaspora communities by increasing awareness and ownership of the Liberia Diaspora Engagement Policy (LDEP) while encouraging collective cooperation for strategic and targeted investments in Liberia. Utilizing information technology innovations, LDx aims to facilitate exchanges and interactions with Liberian businesses both within the diaspora and in Liberia, providing sustainable opportunities for investment promotion, business growth, investment matching, and community engagement. The LDx initiative aligns with the five guiding principles of the LDEP, utilizing sustainable innovation to increase access to investment information and business interactions, ultimately driving more partnerships, support, and investments in Liberia by the Liberian Diaspora.
This partnership between LDx and Philimena.com represents a significant step towards fostering economic growth, promoting entrepreneurship, and strengthening the bonds between Liberia and its diaspora communities. With the LDx platforms and the expertise of Philimena.com on board, a brighter economic future for Liberia seems more attainable than ever before.
