Monrovia – Chinese Ambassador to Liberia YIN Chengwu has stressed that his country is committed to helping Liberia achieve economic and social development under the leadership of President Joseph Boakai.

The Chinese Ambassador made the statement when he donated a solar power project for the central office and eight counties’ post offices of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
Ambassador Chengwu said: “Under the strong leadership and strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Joseph Boakai, China-Liberia relations is ushering in a new stage. As always, China will continue pursuing the principles of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith in China-Liberia relations, and jointly promote fruitful results in China-Liberia friendly, pragmatic and win-win cooperation.”
He added: “China is committed to helping Liberia achieve economic and social development. We will continue to work with the Liberian government and people to strive for greater development of practical cooperation in all fields between our two countries and make positive contributions to building a China-Liberia community with a shared future.”
According to the Chinese Ambassador, the donation of the solar power project is an important achievement of practical cooperation between China and Liberia.
“I’m honored to attend today’s handover ceremony for the donation of the solar power project for the central office and eight county post offices to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the Republic of Liberia. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, I would like to express my sincere congratulations to the Liberian government and people,” Ambassador Chengwu said.
He added: “The implementation of the project will provide a stable and reliable, clean and green power supply for central office as well as other eight county post offices in Liberia, such as Montserrado, Bomi, Magibi, Bong, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, etc., and improve local communication infrastructure conditions, and help Liberia’s economic and social development.”
Also speaking, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunication Sekou M. Kromah praised the government of China through its embassy near Monrovia for their continuous support in the development of the postal and telecommunication sectors.
Minister Kromah said: “It is our prayer that this bilateral relationship will be strengthened in enhancing our cooperation and partnership.”
According to the Minister, the solar power project started in 2023 with the installation of solar panels at seven rural post offices. He named Tubmanburg, Kakata,Gbarnga, Ganta, Sanniquille, Saclepea, and Zwedru as the places where solar panels were installed. Minister Kromah also names Randall Street postal annex and the central office as areas that also benefited.
“Today, we have electricity at these facilities which is going to enhance postal digitalization to include remittance and e-commerce especially in rural areas. The installation of the solar panel at the central is to provide light at night to curtail theft and break-in at the ministry. as we speak, we now have light all around the central office building during the night,” Minister Kromah said.
