Monrovia – Subpoenas sought by the defense in the ongoing alleged murder trial involving former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott and three other family members, initially denied by Criminal Court “A” Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie, have now been granted by Chambers Justice Jamesetta Wolokollie.
The decision of the lower court judge was overturned by the Chambers Justice on a Petition for Writ of Certiorari filed by the defense against the judge and the prosecution.
The defense team filed a petition before the Chambers of Justice, requesting Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Tamba Koijee to testify to his relationship with Mohammed Keita, Varlee Telleh, and others, as well as his phone interactions with them from February 20 to 24, 2023.
They also requested Varlee Telleh’s wife to testify regarding a proposed phone number registered in Varlee Telleh’s name and used by her, and calls made to a number that was also in contact with Moses Wright, one of the security personnel on the compound of Justice Scott before, during, and after the incident.
They are also requesting Moses Wright, the Commander of the Private Security (Genesis) on the Compound of Justice Scott, to testify about his phone communication with a number that was also interacting with the same number said to be used by Varlee Telleh’s wife before, during, and after the incident that resulted in the death of the late Charloe Musu.
Moses Wright will also testify as to why he changed his phone on the morning of February 23, 2023, the very next day after the incident.
Furthermore, they requested the coroner of Montserrado County who attended to the deceased Charloe Musu to produce and testify to the Coroner’s Report.
Simultaneously, the defense wants Orange GSM Company to produce and testify to the call logs of Mayor Jefferson Tamba Koijee’s Orange numbers, Moses Wright’s Orange Numbers, and Mohammed Keita’s Orange Number, all from February 20 to 24, 2023.
Similarly, they are requesting Lonestar GSM Company to produce and testify to the call logs of all Mayor Jefferson Tamba Koijee’s Lonestar numbers from February 20 to 24, 2023.
The Chambers Justice ruled that it is the defendants’ right to produce evidence that exonerates them.
On Wednesday, December 6, Judge Willie denied the defense’s request to subpoena Mayor Koijee and others, noting that the application was not specific and did not present any evidence for which those individuals should be subpoenaed.
Judge Willie made a specific reference to the defense not providing documentary or witness testimony that indicated that Mohammed Keita was a part of the incident.
Judge Willie further noted that allowing them to be subpoenaed without evidence is intending to allow them to testify against themselves.
Meanwhile, the latest decision by the Chambers Justice will now compel Judge Willie to subpoena Mayor Koijee, Varlee Telleh’s wife, and others as requested by the defense. They are expected to appear on Wednesday, December 13, to testify in the ongoing alleged murder trial.
