Kakata (LINA) – A member of the Board of Governors of the Booker Washington Institute, (BWI) says if Liberia is to develop fast, vocational- technical education must be a major priority component of the country’s national development agenda.
Mr. Alexander Benedict Cummings said the urging and compelling need for Liberia vocational – technical educational needs are fully prioritized, the Liberia will experienced rapid growth and development in its quest to fully develop the country following years of self- destruction.
Mr. Cummings who is also Standard Bearer of the opposition Alternative National Congress, (ANC) the Booker Washington Institute, (BWI) which is premier in vocational education in Liberia must be given the needed support that will enable it to provide the kind of quality vocational training that will provide quality services to the country and its people.
According to the Liberia News Agency, Mr. Cummings made the statement today on the campus of the Booker Washington Institute in kakata when he formally turned over a 350 KVA Generator to the Administration of the Booker Washington, (BWI) for the provision of electricity.
Mr. Alexander Benedict Cummings was appointed as a Board Member of the reconstituted Board of Governors of the Booker Washington Institute in early March of this year of which the publisher of the Daily Observer and an alumnus of the school, Mr. Kenneth Y. Best serves as Chairman.
Mr. Cummings during his last visit following his appointment as a member of the Board of Governors of BWI, he asked the Principal of the institution, Atty. Harris Fomba Tarnue about what was the immediate priority of the institute and he told him about the serious gap in provision of electricity on the campus was seriously hampering the smooth learning process.
He said the donation of the 350 KVA generator was based on the response from the Principal of the School citing serious electricity problem the institution was faced with that prompted him to provide the generator.
Mr. further indicated that he was very delighted to within a relatively short period of time purchased the generator for the school which will help in solving the electricity problem facing the school adding, “electrical power is very essential to everything that we all do in our daily lives and in the absence of it, it is very difficult for even the students to student their lessons and other thing that will enhance their livelihood for a better tomorrow”.
Receiving the generator on behalf of the Booker Washington Institute, the Principal, Attorney Harris Fomba Tarnue he was deeply gratified for the timely intervention of
Mr. Cummings in donating a 350 KVA generator to the institution.
Principal said he was immensely gratified by the donation of a 350 KVA Generator to be used by the nation’s most prominent, oldest and largest vocational institution, the
Booker Washington Institute, BWI.
He the donation of the generator by Mr. Cummings shows that Mr. Cummings as a Board member of the Booker Washington Institute, he has a very good intension for the institution that has nearly half a century now provided vocational education to thousands of young Liberians who have contributed immensely towards the growth and development of the country.
He said within a relatively short period of time after holding discussion with Mr. Cummings on the immediate priority of the school, he was very shock to see him making good his promise to the school, adding, “as a result, we now runs the generator over one hundred hours now as it is perfectly providing full electricity to the institution.
Principal Tarnue further commended Mr. Cummings for helping ease the electricity gap the school was faced with and look forward to a more active and positive engagement with him and other members of the Board of Governors of the Booker Washington Institute, (BWI).
