CAPITOL HILL, Monrovia – The leadership of the House of Representatives is expected to meet with the management of the National Port Authority to respond to concerns raised by the House over the dismissal of several staff of the port authority.
On Thursday, the House’s Plenary unanimously voted to summon the Management and Board of Directors of the National Port Authority (NPA) to appear before Leadership on Monday at 12noon. This decision was based on a communication from Rep. Bernard Blue Benson (District #17, Montserrado County).
Rep. Benson, in his communication stated that he was told the staff were dismissed due to “financial improprieties and administrative reasons.” However, those affected say they were not accorded due process in line with Article 20 of the Liberian Constitution.
The dismissed employees include Gabriel S. Bull, Comptroller; Vakumah Dukuly, Former Comptroller; Logan David, former LSP Director; Sabato Dennis, former Director of Investigation; Christian Brownell, Deputy Comptroller, Terrence Doe, Executive Director of Transport and Pewee S Flomoku, Executive Director of Human Resources. Others include Patrick Sumo, Executive Director to the office of former Managing Director; Civicus Barsi-Giah, Buchanan Port Director and P. Martin Zayzay, Port Coordinator – Buchanan.
He then craved the House “to invite managing director of the National Port Authority, Mr. Sekou A.M. Dukuly, Mr. James Richard Bernard, Deputy for Administration and the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Luther Tarpeh t go in depth to the cause of termination unambiguously and with the magnitude charges also ascertain that those terminated were afforded due process according to Article 20 of the Liberian Constitution.”
The investigation to ascertain the truth, according to Rep. Benson, will give a clear explanation to the people of Liberia who are eager to know the truth of the mass termination of employees at the NPA.
