MONROVIA – A high-profile delegation from the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA) visited the factory of the Global Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing and Laboratories (GPML) on Wednesday.
Led by LMHRA’s Managing Director Dr. Luke Bawo and Deputy Managing Director Dr. Patricia Quaye Freeman, the visit aimed to establish relationship and discuss critical issues facing the health sector especially, regulation issues.
“This visit is one of many to come, and we look forward to working closely with Global Pharmaceutical to advance our shared objectives in the health sector,” Dr. Bawo said.
Dr. Luke Bawo highlighted the essential regulatory role of the LMHRA and extended an invitation to GPML to further understand the agency’s work. This gesture comes as Dr. Bawo and his team takes over the management of LMHRA following their appointment by President Joseph Boakai, Sr.
During the visit, representatives from GPML expressed their gratitude to the LMHRA delegation for the opportunity to showcase their facility and engage in meaningful discussions. GPML is renowned for being the first good manufacturing practice (GMP) certified pharmaceutical industry in Liberia, with manufacturing capabilities that meet various international standards.
The representatives from GPML reiterated their commitment to becoming a leading quality-oriented, fast-growing company both nationally and internationally. They emphasized their goal of establishing an excellent reputation in the healthcare sector.
The visit marks a significant step in fostering cooperation between regulatory authorities and industry players to enhance the healthcare landscape in Liberia.
GPML seeks to produce medicines in Liberia to enhance regulation and consumers’ confidence in the country.
Its factory is the first in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. Its products are certified by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) that publishes information on drugs, and the International Standard Organization (ISO), which writes the bible for global pharmaceuticals.
