Todd’s donation is intended to aid in the fight and prevention of the global coronavirus pandemic and its outbreak in the country.
Recently, the Ministry of Health declared a Health Emergency in Montserrado and Margibi Counties and some restrictions announced by the Ministry included closure of all schools, bars, night clubs, suspension of international commercial flight, restriction of street selling, reducing passengers within vehicles amongst others for the period of 21 days to stem the spread of Convid-19 in the country.
Speaking during the presentation, Todd told the ruling party’s members in the district that it was not about the items he had donated, but how Liberians and others can adhere to the health regulations that were put in place by the Health Ministry and the National Public Health Institute (NPHIL) in the fight against the virus.
“We should educate our people. Let them know what it means by social distancing, what it means to fight the virus. We have to keep washing our hands. It is not going to be business as usual. What Ebola did to us in this country we cannot afford to go that route,” the Deputy Public Works Minister said.
Todd further stated that the virus is destroying the world, and that it is time for Liberians to collectively work together so that their country not go beyond the three people who have been confirmed positive with the virus.
“We come to identify with our district through the leadership of the Coalition for Democratic Change in District #6. I want to say thanks to the leadership of the district in carrying on awareness in communities. The virus is an enemy that we cannot physically see,” Minister Todd said.
“We have had three cases. Let’s continue to do what we can do as Liberians, so that the number can just remain to three. All we can do is to minimize the spread of the disease. The best we can do is follow the health protocols,” Minister Todd urged.
Receiving the buckets, the CDC District #6 Coordinator, Mr. Amadu D. Bility, thanked the Minister for identifying with the people of the district during this period of health crisis.
Bility said the district office has over 300 people who they trained to carry out awareness about the virus the district.
According to him, some of the buckets would be given to people who cannot effort to buy them while others will be placed at strategic locations within the district.
