MONROVIA — Liberia’s President-elect, Ambassador Joseph Nyumah-Boakai, has assured Liberians of benefiting from their votes and pledges to make Liberia a different country under his leadership.
He made the promise at a certification program held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the James Flomoyan Hall at the headquarters of the National Elections Commission (NEC). In his remarks, President-elect Boakai expressed his commitment.
The National Elections Commission officially certified President-elect Joseph Nyumah-Boakai and his Vice President, Jeremiah Kpan-Koung, for their victory in the November 2023 Presidential run-off election.
President-elect Boakai stated, “We want to renew our commitment to our people. With this certification, I pledge that Liberia will be a different country under my leadership. We will not betray the trust of the people; we will work tirelessly for you and ensure that you benefit from your votes. In doing so, we say: Love, Think, and together we will Build Liberia.”
Further, he commended the Unity Party, the National Elections Commission, his family, and the men and women of the UP Alliance. He also commended President Weah, who conceded defeat even before the announcement of official results by the NEC.
“This event will be meaningless if Liberians cannot benefit from the dividends of their democracy. It must be felt in every town and village. I call on Liberians everywhere to join me in rebuilding our nation. In the coming weeks, my Vice President and I will lay out the roadmap for progress and development. We will fully articulate the path to peace, development, and progress for our country.”
President-elect Boakai defeated incumbent President George Weah, who was seeking his constitutional second term, with a margin of 50% to 49%, thereby declaring Boakai the winner of the 2023 elections and making George Weah a one-term President.
