Monrovia – Mr. Marcus Soko, head of Liberia’s Drug Enforcement Agency has died. Family and government sources confirmed the news to FrontPageAfrica early Friday but could not confirmed COVID-19 as the cause of death.
Mr. Soko had reportedly been symptomatic and ailing for the past week at home, until he was rushed to the 14th Military Hospital late Thursday night where he was pronounced dead.
“The symptoms indicate COVID-19 but the test results will determine,” a senior security official told FPA Friday.
FrontPageAfrica has learned that Mr. Soko has in recent days participated in a number of high-security meetings relating to the government’s COVID-19 response.
FrontPageAfrica has learned that the result is expected by midday Friday.
If COVID-19 is confirmed as the cause of death, it would mark the first high-profile death from the virus in the Liberian government.
