Voinjama, Lofa County – The administration of the Lofa County Community College (LCCC) has handed down a decision, warning and suspending several of its staff including two deans.
Mr. Daniel Kizekai, dean of the Department of Education and Mr. Paul L. S. Nabieu, deans of Department of Agriculture were both suspended for three months each without pay for allegedly giving grades to students and instructing other instructors under their supervision to do same.
For the other five staff, college the administration recently suspended them for issuing a press release which the LCCC administration deemed “derogatory and injurious” to the office of the president and some senior administrators of the college.
Some instructional staff also suspended are Eric Forkpa, James Logan, and Edwin Zaizay, all of whom were suspended for one month each for allegedly giving grades to the suspended students, against the decision reached at a senior staff meeting of the college.
Others are Moses Kesselly and Hena Kawala who were both issued warning letters.
Dr. Samuel K. Ngaima, the president of the Lofa County Community College, announcing the decision on Friday, January 11, 2019, said one of his administration’s responsibilities is to “maintain stability and good educational system in a good atmosphere”.
The president specifically made reference to Agriculture Dean Nabieu who alleged submit an “A” grade for two students of his department. These students were not deserving of the grade.
“Two days after he was warned, two days after he wrote a letter, he said he submitted the grades by mistake,” Dr. Ngaima explained.
“So we felt that this is improper, this is unprofessional and we are not going to allow it”.
When contacted, Mr. Kizekai one of the suspended deans, said he prefers withholding comments from the public for now.
Since former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s branding of the educational system as a mess, the Liberian intellectual quarters have not ceased to be fierily engaged with mixed reactions on what needs to be done to improve the system.
