Senator Zoe Emmanuel Pennue has called on the Ministry of Justice, through the Liberian National Police, to speedily investigate and bring to justice the perpetrators of the December 5th, 2023, violence in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.
Speaking for the first time since the violence in the county that led to the destruction of his homes and other properties, Senator Pennue also used the medium to extend a message of condolence on behalf of the Pennue family to the Gewion family, the people of Grand Gedeh, and the country at large for the death of Hon. Erol Madison Gewion, Representative of Electoral District One, Grand Gedeh County.
He described the perpetrators of the violence as those he considers “United Defeated Candidates” against Zoe Emmanuel Pennue and not people related to the late Erol Madison Gewion, describing it as mere envy and jealousy.
“It’s disappointing to note that those who were involved in the violence are now pointing accusing fingers at other people, including me. I challenge those who are accusing me to make a proper research of my character since I entered into politics in 2005.”
The senator also extended thanks and appreciation to members of the Liberian Senate and friends from the House of Representatives for standing by him during his difficult time.
Early in December, an angry crowd set ablaze several properties, including two residences owned by Senator Zoe Emmanuel Pennue and the Traditional Council Building in Grand Gedeh County over the death of Representative Erol Madison Gewion.
Early Tuesday, December 5, 2023, family members announced the death of the Grand Gedeh County lawmaker.
The information sparked pandemonium, with some citizens accusing Senator Zoe Emmanuel Pennue of having something to do with his fellow lawmaker’s death.
In an expression of anger, the crowd quickly moved to the compound of the Senator in Zwedru, setting ablaze his two houses.
The situation intensified before the Liberia National Police arrived on the scene to restore calm.
Meanwhile, the citizens have called for an immediate independent probe into the death of Representative Gewion.
