Monrovia- Since report of an alleged rape at the John F. Kennedy Hospital emerged about a week ago, where the hospital authorities turned over the suspect to the Liberian National Police, the police is yet to issue an official statement on the outcome of its preliminary investigation.
Dietician Emmett Rogers was turned over to the police after he was alleged to have sexually tampered with a patient undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Nurses on duty in their incidence report of the night in question declared that they saw the dietician, Rogers wandering on the medical ward and asked him why he was roaming around.
The dietician, according to the report, told the nurses that he was performing his duty and had gone to pick up the remaining dishes. One nurse mentioned that she was preparing the patient’s medication and in the process heard screaming from the room 303 B where the patient that was allegedly assaulted was situated.
According to report, investigators sought to get the patient to talk but she reportedly told them she was feeling cold and not too well thus unable to explain what happened when the dietician shut the door and cut the lights off.
But since Rogers was turned over to the police, there has been no police report amid accusations from the father of the sick girl that he was told that his daughter was sexually tampered with.
Hospital confirms Rape?
The father of the victim told FrontPageAfrica that accompanied by the police and a legal representative they were allowed on Friday, to take his daughter to the Women of Hope International Hospital to conduct a medical examination on his daughter.
A brief diagram of the medical examination results spotted by FPA stated that the Virginia of the alleged rape victim had healed wounds and tear at the entry of the Virginia. The medical report indicated that the cuts was sustained in recent days.
No evidence yet?
FPA has also gathered that police investigators have so far found no trace of rape which could likely contradict the hospital report. The JFK report indicated that some nurses saw the accused in the alleged victim’s room where there was screaming.
Our source has hinted that the police is finding it difficult to charge the accused in the absence of tangible evidence that could be used in court.
Since the incident was reported public interest has grown with women groupings, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Julia D. Cassel and others demanding justice in the case.
Reports of investigations from the police have come under questioning in the past with many accusing the police of covering up crimes in an attempt to protect some of those accused, even though the police maintained in these instances that they performed professional investigations.
The mysterious death of two kids in the VOA community on the Robertsfield highway where a police report stated that there was no foul play, indicating that investigation found that the children died from extreme heat raised public eyebrows.
The mysterious death of Victoria Zayzay in police custody and a number of other cases continue to bring the credibility and professionalism of the police into question.
The Father of the alleged victim FPA recently “That Friday evening, by 8:00 clock as I understood from their own report this fellow came with food and served her, normally this is the routine. He came back that time and delivered the food but just within split time he came in the hall again. When he came in, there were four patients in the ward, two were unconscious, my daughter was conscious but has lost her speech. When this guy came in, he shut the light off in that particular ward, he went to my daughter bed and begun to finger her according to what I was told. So the little girl started fighting and trying to scream but she lost speech. So the patient that was stable in the room started screaming, nurses, your come ooh, the man raping the people daughter”.
The father also alleged that he was told that the dietician went to his daughter room for the third time and again sexually tampered with the sick girl.
Said the father “He returned to my daughter room for the third time and shut out the light to rape my daughter again. This time he was caught in the room sitting on my daughter’s bed but the lady that was conscious in the room told me he was over my daughter on the bed and my daughter told me that through signs. When I wrote on a piece of paper to ask my daughter, tell me this man that came did he f’’’’’ you. My daughter told me yes he f’’’’’ me.
FPA has also gathered that the health of the eyewitness in the alleged rape incident, Mariama Kaba, is detoriating. The father of the rape victim told FPA that he was prevented from speaking with Mariama.
“Whenever I go to see my daughter, I always pass to see Mariama and carry her juice or crackers but yesterday I bought a pack of cream crackers for Mariama, but when I arrived at the hospital and approached her room 307, I was stopped by a nurse who said they were under direct orders to restrict people from going to see Mariama, so I was not able to see her, so I do not know what has happened to her”, the father of the alleged rape victim said.
He claimed that he fears perpetrator Rogers is no longer in police custody according to a reliable source, as the police has refused him access to see the perpetrator.
“According to a source from the police, perpetrator Emmett Rogers is not in jail, because I understand that JFK and the mother of Rogers have arranged for him not to be in jail. Ever since the incident, I have not seen the perpetrator. When I asked the police to see him since last week, I was told that they will arrange a day for me to see him. So, I believe that this Rogers man is not in jail, because if he was, the police would have allowed me to see him” he narrated.
When asked via mobile phone, Police spokesman Sam Collins said in a case of rape or alleged rape, the police has to be very careful in bringing the perpetrator face to face with the victim’s relatives.
“The perpetrator is in the police cell right now that I have a photo to show it, but we have not allowed the victim’s father to see the perpetrator because we fear he might lose control and want to attack the man,” said Collins.
