Monrovia – Montserrado District No. 10 Representative, Yekeh Y. Kolubah has called for the appearance of Liberia’s ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Chairman, Mulbah Morlu before the House’s plenary to back his claims that members of the opposition are in support of the assassination plot against President George Weah.

Mr. Morlu, referring to a Facebook post, frowned on leaders of opposition political parties for what he termed as their silence and not condemning alleged calls for the assassination on the life of President George Weah.
The message in the screen shot sent to FrontPageAfrica by Chairman Morlu was posted by one Political Spartacus. The poster writes: “I am calling on all Liberians to pick up arms and rise up against this CDC Government.”
Reacting to the message in a press conference at the CDC headquarters on Wednesday, February 6, Morlu stated: “They have resulted to propaganda and scare tactics and they are now talking about assassination.”
He further accused opposition leaders of being unpatriotic. “I have not heard one statement of condemnation against people calling for war which means that they have endorsed these statements. We are here and here to stay.”
Owing to this, Rep. Kolubah, who co-chairs the House’s Committee on National Defense wrote his colleagues through Speaker Chambers for Chairman Morlu to be invited by plenary to justify his (Morlu) allegations.
In a communication to House Speaker Bhofal Chambers, a copy of which is in the possession of FPA, Rep. Kolubah noted that Morlu’s assertions have national security implications.
“Mr. Speaker and my distinguished colleagues, this statement from Mr. Mulbah k. Morlu Jr., Chairman of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change Party is a complete instigation of attack on the lives of opposition political leaders and politicians in Liberia, which contravenes the tendency of democracy,” Rep. Kolubah writes.
In his communication, the Montserrado County District No. 10 lawmaker stated that Chairman Morlu is noted for making series of unsubstantiated claims.
“This is the same National Chairman of the Coalition for Democratic Change that said he saw pickups loaded with tons of Liberian Dollars and departed the National Housing Bank. Today, we have a serious situation of missing L$16 billion Liberian Dollars untold story faced by this government,” he added.
FPA cannot confirm that Rep. Kolubah’s communication has surfaced on the floor of plenary as the entire session on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 was held behind closed doors.
Ironically Rep. Kolubah is on record of accusing President Weah on several occasions of having in his possession a container filled with Liberian dollars banknotes.
Rep. Kolubah, whose National Patriotic Party (NPP), is part of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change has been vocal against President Weah and his officials over the handling of the economy and the ongoing investigation over the alleged L$16 billion.
Recently, a children Christmas party he organized was vandalized by individuals he claimed were supporters of President Weah’s Congress for Democratic Change (CDC). Days later, his home was allegedly attacked by gunmen. Though, there was no casualty reported.
The Civilian Investigation Unit of the Liberia National Police is currently investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that an allegation of an assassination threat has been reported on President George Weah’s life.
At the height of the 2017 Presidential and Legislative elections campaign, three men identified as Moustapha, Long John and ‘Ivorian’ claimed they were hired by businessman George Kailondo, with the consent of then Defense Minister Brownie Samukai and then Vice President Joseph Boakai, to create commotion during the CDC political rally that took place on August 19, 2017 to take down then Senator Weah by hired Russian assassins. The Liberia National Police under the tutelage of former Police boss, Gregory Coleman launched an investigation and reported that it found no evidence of anyone attempting to assassinate standard bearer of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), then Senator George Weah, as alleged by the three men.
