This is a smear campaign to tarnish the work of the most creditable, the only one in the Sirleaf not to be tainted by corruption, the most professional, the most honest, the no nonsense corruption busting czar, former Auditor General of Liberia, Mr. John Morlu. This is intended to give President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf a clean slate, but let the truth be told and exposed. Publish all the darn GAC audit reports.
And why did Ellen’s regime pick the Kenyan Auditor General for this cover-up job? Because both worked together at the United Nations. They are friends. And if GAC refuses to publish the work of Mr. Ouku or give copies to Mr. Morlu as he rightfully requested, then Mr. Morlu should not hesitate to publish every audit performed by him as Auditor General of Liberia from 2006 to 2011 when Ellen and company forced him out.
It is interesting that during the Gyude Bryant and Charles Taylor eras, reputable international firms (Ernst and Young, Stephen Moore and another European based accounting firms were contracted to audit Liberia finances, including the controversial Liberia Maritime program. Why now a Kenyan when the Kenyan government is broiled in allegations of corruption?
There are over 100 GAC Audits that have been submitted to President Sirleaf awaiting prosecution, but Ellen has refused to act. In one instance, President Sirleaf came to the aid of her former Finance Minister who was implicated in a $6 million racket.
The President came to the aid of her Minister by stating that she bet her neck on the chopping block the minister was not corrupt, a clear usurpation of the due process where Ellen became judge, jury and executioner who vindicated the accused without him having a day in court.
You go back to 2009 and the $1.1 million Central Bank of Liberia and EcoBank money laundering, signature forgery debacle and it was revealed during the probe by investigators and former Auditor General Morlu that a deeper money laundering scheme was revealed allegedly involving President Sirleaf, the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and EcoBank.
Former Central Bank Governor Mills Jones told a news conference then that the authenticity of Sirleaf’s forged signature didn’t raise too much of an alarm because Jones said “the Central Bank had already transferred over $10 million into President Sirleaf’s private development agenda account at EcoBank based on numerous directives from the President” and notably, without the knowledge and approval of the National Legislature.
An additional $80,000.00 was paid to one Ms. DeKalb, a former US FBI signature reading expert from Illinois. And what became of that investigation? Ellen can do no wrong. She is Africa’s first woman President, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, etc.
But whether Ellen publishes all the audit reports or not, they are public records and the next President can proceed with prosecuting those implicated. Good that Mr. Morlu has copies of every audit that was performed during his reign at GAC. We know Morlu is a decent Liberian who performed exemplary at GAC and they simply want to drag him through the gutter of dirty Liberian politics. Good he is fighting back now.
