MONROVIA — Swagger Island is located along the Somalia Drive road and is inhabitant to over five thousand residents’ bulk of whom are living with a challenge of fetching safe drinking water. On a daily basis they go to faraway resident in search of safe drinking water.
According to Isaac Dolo-Nyan acting community chairman, access to safe drinking water is a paramount need of the people on the Island and according to him it is time for the government to intervene or “good friends.”
In his word people who will see their need and help will represent good friends and he vowed to cherish their friendship in the time of needs. You’re going to represent a true friendship. “Though our needs are many we need a true friend to come to identify with us.”
At event marking the official dedication of a bridged rebranding project by the friends of Laraamand Shenkin Nyonton, a resident of the community who currently resides in the US, Chairman Nyan described the bridge project as a very significant intervention because in his words it was a “death trap.”
“This place has been consider a death trap but today we are happy and want to admonish you not to stop here. Continue your good work and it will pay off in the future.
The people of this Island wants me inform you that the key need of this community is pipe borne water. We want to call on the government of Liberia government that the people of this Island deserve better and once we have someone coming to our aid we will remain your life time partner.
He furthered threatened that residents of the Swagger Island Community have in the past given away “free Vote” but are prepare reconsidering that. “The people of this community will not give out votes free. Before we give you our votes you must have establish a friendship with the people of this island. We are happy to be counted amongst 17 communities in district #12. Montserrado County.
Stephen B. Morris is the spokesman of the Laraamand Shenkin Nyonton movement who said, the movement saw the importance of the project after many complaints by residents of the community of it being a death trap.
“The Nyounton Movement saw that it was a death trap decided to intervene. The focus of this group is to maintain reconciliation and oneness. We encourage everyone to encourage oneness because Liberia is all we have. We have come to dedicate this project and will ensure that we keep it up to date. We appreciate your collaboration. I have come to say to you that this movement is alive in the 17 communities in district #12 Montserrado County.
“Let’s remain united and consider team work as a hallmark. This project is define as a lifesaving project. Yesterday it was a death trap and as you can see there are safe guard place on the bridge.”
