Paynesville – Residents of Maude Town Community in Jacob Town, Paynesville are breathing a sigh of relief after a son of the community, P. Edwin Tisdell embarked on the rehabilitation of the main secondary road linking Maude Town with several communities in the area.
Mr. Tisdell, the founder and Executive Director of the Champion Design franchise, through his foundation, the P. Edwin Tisdell Foundation recently broke ground for the rehabilitation of the 1.8 kilometers secondary road valued at US$26,000.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony recently, Mr. Tisdell said the project was his and family’s way of giving back to the community he was born and raised, and that has helped him to become who he is today.
“I am from this community. I went to the Maude Town School that was later changed to Fair Field Baptist. But from time in memorial, our people have suffered from the bad road condition, making the place not accessible to vehicle,” he said.
“That is why my family and foundation have decided to reach out to the community and help with the fixing of this road. I believe as a child of this community, I am obligated to help in whatever positive way to bring relief to our people; and this is me and my family’s way of giving back.”
Also speaking, the newly elected community chairman of Lonestar-2 and Nezo where Maude Town is located, Victor Dolo, Sr. thanked Mr. Tisdell and his family for the timely project and pledged the community’s cooperation towards its successful implementation.
He said since the alley was first opened in the ’80s, it will be the first time in 30 years that to be reconditioned.
“I was very glad when Henry Getoe (an elder of the community) called me that a son of this community was prepared to fix this road for us. We are very grateful and are praying that this will be successfully completed to bring relief to us. To travel here has been very difficult,” Chairman Dolo said.
