Margibi County – It was a blissful and jubilant day for hundreds of residents of the New Life Community in Margibi County District #1 when their lawmaker, Rep. Tibelrosa Tarponweh officially opened the newly constructed road.
The road connects the FDA Community in Montserrado County with New Life Community in Margibi County.
Prior to the rehabilitation work by Rep. Tarponweh, the road was very deplorable and impassable, especially during the rainy season.
Commuters, including students, marketers, motorcyclists and other residents of both communities face difficulties in accessing the road.
Rep. Tarponweh noted that having considered the effects of the bad road condition against his constituents, he saw it significant to rehabilitate it.
Addressing hundreds of residents during the dedicatory ceremony, Rep. Tarponweh averred that the construction of the road is a means of “giving back to the people” and attending to their immediate needs. He added that it is in line with the philosophy of ‘Putting the people’s interest first.’
Speaking further, the lawmaker cautioned public officials to avoid using their prospective offices against the people they serve.
“We, public officials, must be honest to our people. Transformational leadership is what killing Liberia. Once we have one, Liberia will progress rapidly. Government service should not be a way to despise and corrupt people,” he cautioned.
He also called on the Liberian Government to expand the 28 mile Robert International Airport (RIA) road to a four lane road.
“The RIA road is the first attraction to first time visitors and tourists to Liberia. The Condition of any international airport road speaks volume about the country and its inhabitants. So, the RIA road must be expanded and electrified,” he asserted.
Cutting the ribbon, the Margibi County Lawmaker called on the residents to support the project by ensuring its continuous maintenance.
The dedication of the road brought smile on the faces of the residents and further ignited the spirit of development among them.
The residents awarded a certificate of appreciation to Rep Tarponweh, recognizing him for his dedicated service and outstanding accomplishments.
The New Life Community Chairman, Mr. Andrew B. Roberts lauded Rep. Tarponweh and pledged to work with residents to maintain the road.
“The road will bring relief to hundreds of people who are not even residents of our community, and will enhance free movement in our community,” he testified.
