In a communication address to Speaker Fonati Koffa and members of that august body, Rep. Flomo reminded his colleagues that “The decision by the ULFASA to suspend academic activities until their demands are addressed has impacted all academic activities for students and risks further disruptions to the academic calendar.
He said: “prompt action must be taken to investigate the concerns raised by the ULFASA and facilitate a resolution that enables the resumption of normal academic activities at the University of Liberia.
In a recent emergency general assembly, ULFASA cited delays in payment of part-time faculty, salary disparities, and lapses in ACTIVA Insurance contributions. The resolution demands immediate action, specifying payment in US dollars or Liberian Dollar equivalent, a refund for overdue ACTIVA Insurance deductions, the rectification of salary disparities, and the long-overdue implementation of faculty promotions and tenure.
In turn, the UL Administration on February 18 announced that it will begin paying its part-time instructors to allow the resumption of normal schooling activities, a promise yet to be actualized, prompting another setback to the resumption of academic activities at the State-Run University.
However, the Montserrado County District #13 lawmaker informed his colleague that addressing the issues raised by the ULFASA through constructive dialogue will ensure the smooth running of academic activities at the University of Liberia to allow students to resume their studies at the institution.
